eBay "Axle Back" Stainless Muffler Installed! Pics & video!

Well, let me start of by saying, "It's cheap stainless", "There were fitment issues", "You get what you pay for!", "It's got square exhuast tips".

Total price shipped was $115.

Build quality is actually quite good for a overseas mass-produced acle-back muffler. I had some issues with the tips not lined up, then the muffler was hitting the undercarriage, then I noticed the right tip was banging against the bumper cut-out. So after some "man-handling" and force bending the pipe and the hangers, I got it all to line up perfectly with the OEM cut-out and it does not hit any of the undercarriage. Took some time, but I sort of expected this due to the price I paid.

On to the pictures
(I apologize for the glare. It is either due to a 3 yr olds finger or a 6 yr olds finger smearing the lens).

The tips aren't exactly perfect. Like I said, I had to "man-handle" the entire set-up to get it to where you see it now.

My plan is to cleanly cut off the square tips and have my stainless round angled tips welded in place of them.

As for the GLE tails...

...SE Altezza's are and I actually prefer a sedate look. I do not even like the 5th gen SE lights because they are not actually black, but rather a brown. Personal taste. Let's leave it at that.

You can hear how it sounds in POst #2. Deepr and throatier than stock. But nice and quiet. even at WOT

Oh and I'll add that the gasket is a piece of **** as expected. You can see water leaking from the flange in the video. That will soon be taken care of with a nicer fitting quality gasket.

Most aftermarket exhausts come with the ****ty gasket. So no surprise there.

I actually started the Megan thread because I was going to purchase it, but since my b-pipe is still in good condition (crossing fingers) and I wasnt awanting to spend the extra $$$ I went with this.

It's a moot point. For the maxima, the Megan catback, Frankencar catback, Stillen catback, Greddy catback, Cattman catback, etc.......NONE of them adds any significant power (<2-3whp) unless the engine is FI or built. For a stock or near-stock engine, a catback on a maxima is really just for looks, sound, and stainless steel (no rust) because of the (actually) very good flow in the OEM muffler.

Aside from the ugly tips and fitament issues, looks like he got a decent deal on this ebay muffler and now he has a couple hundred bucks leftover for something that WILL improve performance (maybe a set of springs, a sway bar, a y-pipe?)

sounds alright. . .I reiterate that I'd prefer getting the sound from the front part of the exhaust(y-pipe, headers) than the back precisely because of what irish mentions. I don't see the point in show without go, well, save for " ICE "

you're just mad you don't have a sexy-looking frankencar rear section looking all pretty below your bumper

Then again, it replaced my OEM muffler that literally rusted off. Stainless >stock

Ok guys.

My OEM muffler rusted off at the flange, so I replaced it with this cheap alternative and wanted a lil' nicer sound. Achieved!

I already have round angled stainless tips sitting in my garage that I had installed on my OEM muffler before it rusted away. Those will eventually make there way onto this muffler.

I already have springs (Maxspeed w/Tokico HP's)

kramarz99, I knew what you meant. eBay items are cheaper than buying retail, etc.

Would you mind measuring the muffler and giving me the dimensions? Does it appear to be mandrel bent? I'm sure it is. I'm looking to make a mandrel bent rear section with a magnaflow muffler and the nearest shop with a mandrel bender is 5+ hours away so I'm either going to buy the pre mandrel bent tubing online and have a local shop weld or get something like this and swap out the cheaper muffler for the magnaflow given the dimensions will work. Has anyone done this before?

Yeah the tips look ugly, they look like they're smashed or something. The rest of the muffler looks good.

i dunno, they're both pretty sexy.

Of course, i bought my frankencar off of Puppetmaster, who put on a cattman. And then he bought another frankencar and sold the cattman

both sexy though

though FC has the money tips:
