Please Help Advise - Car will not start or try to turn over

So after watching Transformers (one of the best movies ever) i went out last night and i couldn't start my car. All the lights worked inside and out. I have a yellow top that is about 6 months old never over used. When i turn the key is doesn't even click. It kind of hummmms and that's it, no attempt to turn over at all. Most will say starter, how do i test this/take it out? But are there any other suggestions?? Thanks, i was about to do a break job today and other things (just recently turned over 100,000 miles) it'll have to wait. Happy July 4th btw. thanks agian.

Give a good smack to your starter (hammer, breaker bar, whatever you have with you) - it may come to life for a short while, then triage from there.

Just in case, make sure the fuse for the starter is still good.

yeah i had it towed back and parked it, next morning it worked after a little try (heat related??) i have no idea. but i think i'll be buying a new starter anyways. Where is a good place to get one that will last the rest of the life of the car? autozone? kreagan? OEM? thanks for the info guys.

so i'd have to get under the car and smack it?? it's kind of hard to get to isn't is??

heck no. Dont go to Nissan for anything except sensors and even then you have options. For a starter, hit up junkyards first then go to your nearest autozone and in between, look on maxima.org lol and as a worst case scenario, contact DaveB but i'm 150% sure you'll find a junkyard that has one, even if they have to ship it from out of state. F Nissan dealers.....except DaveB

IT all depends on how much you want to spend. BTW Stanton isn't that far from you and tere are 2 pick a parts there. Go there on a regular basis.

BTW does anyone here have a x-refrence on the starter he needs like what year max etc will work for his starter? OR will any VQ starter work?

i just purchased a duralast sp? start from autozone (they always rent out free tools so i figure i return the favor and buy from them). i'll be installing it this weekend in hopes of solving the problem. so far i have to hit the dang starter every time so far, luckily i have a "turbo timer" (not turbo) so i can make quick stops. ill update once i finish the replacement.

YAY! it was the starter....install was REALLY fast, one hour. and it starts like a champ now. hopefully it'll last till i get a new car (another 100k miles??) ahhaah but i have a life time warranty on it so i should be good. thanks G45owner for the advice on hitting it. i would have gottn stuck at work if i didnt know that...

once again the org over the past two weeks have saved me about 400 bucks.
how to on break pad change
how to on taking out the starter

I think that trick for hitting the starter should be on the FAQ or something cause if i knew that the first night i could have saved a towing expense...just an FYI for all the 5th gens reaching 100k miles. btw i just used my spare tire wrench, it worked perfect, thin and juuust long enough to hit it.
