Question about tire aspect ratio for SE models
#1
After reading the thread generated by Russ (man! no over there) had me thinking about the issue of speedometer error. I understand that 215/55 16" tires and rims comes STANDARD for all SE models. So, if we opt for comfort and convenient package, which comes with 225/50 17" tires and rims, then we should experience some speedometer error due to aspect ratio/rim size difference, right? (215/55 16" to 225/50 17" ==> 2.16% speedometer error)
y2kse, you point out that going from 225/50 17" to 225/45 17" will produce 3.42% speedometer error (source given by you at http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html). But shouldn't we rather compare 215/55 16" against 225/45 17"(which actually produced 1.34% error)? what about standard GXE's 15" going to 16" with different stock tire size? which one would you use as a standard reference?
I'm assuming 215/55 16" as a standard reference for all SE models (or maybe for ALL 5th gen maxima models -- and hence produce 0% speedometer error). Maybe Nissan already made special adjustment to this for each model, but I hardly think so...maybe I'm wrong
comments please...
Thanks.

Just to correct Stealth, not all SE come STANDARD with 215/55R16s, only the Amaerican version. Up here we not only get standard 17's but we also get LSD mmmwwwwwaaaaahhahahhahahahahhahaha! (Oh, Canada! Our home of loaded Maxs.) (FYI up here SEs are always loaded, they a basically a sport version of the GLE, we got the leather, we got the roof, we got the bose) We got screwed on the 20th aniversary skirt kit, but I ain't got no 20th aniversary!
I checked my spedo against a timed run on cruise and the spedo is off by about .5% - 1%

I haven't got RSB or STB yet but will get them soon.
Maybe all Canadian Max should be rebadged as GLE-S

plus sizing for 215/55/16's
I'm going to replace my stock Toyos very soon - the sooner the better. But I like and am gonna keep the stock 16" rims. I'm deciding between the Kumho Ecsta 712's or Potenza 730's. I'm leaning towards the Kuhmo's simply because of availability but would prefer the Potenza's. I know that the 16" rims are 6.5" wide so would either 225/50/16's or 225/55/16's fit? Would it even be worth to plus size to these or just keep it at the stock 215/55/16?
