Quick Response Please - Exhaust Recommendations

HI All, Sorry no time to search. Car is down and I must fix tomorrow. I need the exhaust from the Cat all the way back. It rotted and broke in the middle of that section, and what a coincidence... It's all one piece. I do not want improved performance or sound changes. Is OEM replaced including labor at $725 good or am I being robbed?

Thanks in advance...

well oem might cost that much from the stealership why dont you take the car to one of the muffler shops and let them see what the can do to it. they might be able to weld it back together or sumthing but i wouldn't spend $725 fixing that.

I did go to Midas and they said they could not weld as it went right at the first joint above the muffler. Their crap system that would rust again in less than 2 years was quoted at $530.

Maybe you can salvage the muffler and get them to crush bend a b pipe for you.

I def. would seek other options than spending $725 on OEM exhaust.

Thanks all for those who were constructive with responses. I will look into the salvaging of the muffler with the weld suggestion.

If I knew the cheaper ways already, I guess I would have never had a need to post now would I, but thanks for your major efforts anyway soonerfan... you did all you could to assist I guess, and I appreciate the attempt....

look at lssexhaust.com and get a b pipe from them, if your rear section is fine then just reuse it, if not keep the muffler and have them just fix the rear section. the b pipe was only $230 so i think this would be the cheapest and theres no. sound difference

i had this problem 2 months ago. buy a cattman catback, save $100, all stainless steel construction, and unless you're super critical of the tone and pitch, you will be very happy.

With a limited time-frame to perform the repairs, there aren't too many suggestions outside of having it fixed locally, that we can offer. If time wasn't such a constraint, I would recommend checking on here in the 5th gen section for used exhaust components. I personally have an '02 B-pipe that is just sitting around that I would send you and I'm sure you could also find a rear section fairly easily as well. $725 is somewhat pricey.

Well i know searching through the 10000 plus pages of exhaust questions would be dificult and finding the thread on the first page about the megan racing exhaust was how hard? Here, this set up runs around 400 bucks

Thanks for the suggestion SuperStasiu, and for pointing out the page 1 Megan thread, but a racing exhaust was of no interest to me. I am one of "many" Max owners that find this forum valuable but are not performance orientated and mod minded. My performance needs are satified by my 2-wheel toy. My Max is great just as it is in its OEM state, but again, thanks anyway.

"Thanks" for your "weld" suggestion MaximaGT-R. I went to a custom muffler shop this morning and they cut out the flange that rotted and broke (first one up from the muffler), and they welded in a new section of stainless. They also fabricated and welded in a hanger to replace the one by the resonator that was rotted. All for just $60 and done in just 30 minutes. Thanks Again... Problem solved.

Get the Megan Racing OE cat back. You will be stoked that you did.
Great quality for a great price.

i had my exhaust system rust out in the exact same spot right infront of the muffler.....took it to a friends shop and got him to cut the rust off, and weld it back solid. Seems to be holding up so far and didn't affect preformance or sound.
