Auto Dimming mirror

i have a 2k max and wanted an auto dimming mirror for the car. Can i buy one from a 2002 i35 or an 01 i30 or a 5.5 gen max? would it be pretty much plug and play? does it matter that the mirror is from a car that is newer? also, if i can buy one of those mirrors do i need to buy the wiring harness for it? or where could i find the wires for it?

You can basically buy any mirror you want. It all depends on the mount, wiring, and features. The wiring is basic...power, ground, and temp. probe (if needed). All the features are within the mirror itself, and most of the time only need power and ground (no harness needed). Here is my setup...I had to wire power, ground, and run the temperature sensor.

yes, but you have to wire it to a power source. Mine is wired to the interior lighting down below the dash.....

I like that mirror, what car did it come from? I'd like to get one like that with the compass. Now I have a 2K SE with ATC, and it displays the outside temp.
so I just need the power and ground?

I could use a compass on my mirror at times also. Are there certain cars to look at for these mirrors? Do 6th gens have mirrors like this or g35s or where do I need to look?

Yeah, any power source will work. But, it's best to wire it to ignition, so that it will power off when the car is turned off, so that it won't drain the battery if you happen to forget about it. I have mine wired up to the cigarette lighter power lead.

No how to...it's a basic two wire hookup, power and ground. There's a seperate wire for the temperature display feature (if equipped), where you have to mount the probe sensor to the front bumper and run the wire back to the mirror. Real simple.

Actually now that I look at yours more closely MIXXMAX, yours appears to be quite similar to the one in the link i provided. Any chance they're the same?

This sums it up pretty well.

Btw, if anyone wants an auto dimming mirror (with no compass) from my 2002, send me a PM. I'll let it go for cheap.

lol, yes you are....The tinted electronic mirror IS A HELLUVA LOT better than a plain mirror. Even with the tints, without the auto dim enabled if a big *** suv pulls up behind me the lights still annoy me.

Just run them behind the pillar trim panels running along the door up to the ceiling. Other factory wires are located behind there also, so just zip tie to those.

Just get a multi-meter and hook up one wire to 12V+ and one wire to car ground. The readings will tell you which one is power and which one is ground.

Cheap ebay mirrors

Watch out for those cheap chinese dimming mirrors on ebay. They look nice, but they have lots of quality issues. I learned the hard way (twice).

Yes, exactly like that one. The look nice, but they have very high failure rates and even when they are working, the dimming function is crappy. I ended-up buying a ****. Made in the USA and works great.
