Rear brakes but no shims - any probs?

I just got my rear brakes done on my 2000 Max today - PBR Deluxe with PBR rotors. After looking over the mechanics work today at home, I noticed that there are no shims on the pads. Anyone else running PBR pads without shims? Any squeal or performance probs?

I'm also wondering how to correctly bed the pads and rotors since they are in the rear.
