Having Problems With Car Again

Yesterday I went to the Gas Station and Put $20.00 in i was down to a little under a half of tank so i put in $20 like i said before and that gave 3 Quarters of a tank my brother went to the mall and his friends house which isnt to far from me. maybe 10 miles at the most going to both places. so he gets home and is telling me its back down to a half a tank. and i when and looked at the Gas Gauge and it was reading 1/2 Tank and 167 Miles to go til Empty Now Iam starting to think there is a Fuel Sensor Problem but my car aint throwing any lights on my dash board. Could there also be a small leak in my gas tank.

i guess a leak is a possibility.. keep an eye out for a leak everytime you park the car, and keep a nose out while you drive for any gasoline smells.. i know sometimes my gas gague reads differently depending on where i am.. like depending on whether your car is tilted a certain way on the road, it can tilt the actual gas in the gas tank, giving it a false reading, but you don't have any less gas in there

i don't know how much that is considered common knowledge, but its the only thing i can think of.. good luck

5.5 gens tell you how many miles you have before you're empty? holy crap, thats hot.. lol

I wish that 4th gens could tell mileage to empty. lol

Well being that you're not throwing codes, that a good thing. I can only suggest keeping an eye out as well for any possible leaks. Usually bad gas mileage would show codes with o2 sensors, etc.

Ok Last Night When To the Gas Station Filled the Car up t cost 31.00 and some change. my brother went out last night to somewhere but wasnt far. didnt check the gauge i will when my brother gets home from work with it. its 17 miles back and forth to work so hopewfully ill be able to determine the problem. right now iam driving my Moms Benz. so when they get home I am gonna see if the gas gauge droped pretty far.

I've noticed with my car, the gas guage (and the wretchedly inaccurately trip monitor, including the DTE) both drop dramatically whenever I put the hammer down. Make me think I used much more gas than I actually did, as the needles edges upward and the DTE miles increase with some mild driving afterword. As with many other gas mileage threads, I would say measure your actual gas mileage several tanks to see if it really is either horrendously low or constantly decreasing. Then try to determine the problem.

Do you smell a faint wif of gas? If you do look at your fuel injectors. I was told that the 02 Sensor Bank 2 S1 if it wasnot working would run the car rich. Try disconnecting it and see if the code comes up for it.

When will people learn how to take their MPG the correct way? I'm not going to sit here and explain how to do it, because if you can't figure it out, there's not way one can explain with any success. I have yet to see it happen on this site. So, it's either you know how to do it properly or you don't.

Either way, from the past we all know the DTE is not accurate. If anything on these cars, it's very forgiving. It also calculates upon various sensor input, which are all affected by our different driving habits as well as the condition of the car.

I have different injectors and I alter my MAF signal voltage, so the DTE is even more than probably any or most of yours.

So, one item that are fairly accurate is my odometer (give for <1% due to tire wear) and the other is the ever so accurate 5 sig fig fuel pump readout.

Makes sense, and if it doesn't then, well, tell the Nissan dealer we said hi, and hopefully the woman that prints your bill/ticket out is hot.

Also, as per the fuel level sensor. I've never heard of one going out. And I would truly take my advice before I took it to the dealer. Or better yet, check your true MPG, if you know ho, and then you can see if it is indeed a faulty FLS.

All of this might also be a diffrence/wear of the resistor on your fuel sender. Both my Max and my Bronco have their needles drop at disproptionate levels. ie My bronco will stay on full for the 1st 75-100 miles drop to 2/3rd at about 70-110 miles hover at 1/2 for about 50 or so miles then make the drop to 1/3 1/4for another 70 miles then make a gradual drop to E from there.

The max has similar patterns, but is diffrent enough to keep me on my toes for now. Your only true estimate of mileage will be from your trip meter and the gal per fill up.

Write down the mileage on it before your brother takes it without telling him. If he puts way more miles on it than he said that he did, beat his a**. You should also reset the MPG gauge to see if he constantly guns it and beats the crap out of the car.

this is the only reply you should listen to. trust me, your Bro is sporting around, especially visiting a friend. these cars are practically stealth fighters, in the respect that as I'm sure you well know, they're fun to drive. I would eliminate the user variables first.

Thank you.

I garuntee that your brother is taking the car out for a joyride . All that you have to do is catch him and then do this to him: . He would have to go about 80 miles to burn a 1/4 of a tank, unless he floors it a lot and has fun in big empty parking lots every time he goes out with it. If he's beating the crap out of it, not only is he pissing you off, he is pissing this entire forum off. In that case, we will all gladly come out and him. In the title, you said "having problems with car again", I don't know what other problems you've had, but he may be the reason why you had them. Just my theory, some teens drive like normal people, but there is always those jack-asses that screw around and jack up our insurance rates.

I have a twin brother.

His name is left foot but he doesn't like the gas pedal. He does love the clutch pedal but my car doesn't have one so he is just resting on the footrest.

I know that in my brothers SUV he's been filling up and the guage isn't moving at all. The dealer said it is because of the high level of sulfur in the gas (possibly a summer thing). It will eventually reset itself but may cause immediate alarm for a driver. Don't think this is you case but anyways just thought I'd chime in.
