Gas Smell?????????

Everyone, My 01 max has a gasoline smell every now and then near the fuel door when I walk by the car. I do not have the "shield" or nissan part for the gas line in the wheel well that some people have put on. There are no pin holes there from debris hitting it in the wheel well and I am not losing gas on my garage floor. Is it possible that the original gas cap needs replaced after six years??? Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and replaced their gas cap....Thanks

if your gas cap was not sealed and was leaking fumes (?) you'd probably have a CEL as well..

have you checked under the car for any small leaks? Leaks that may cause fluid to be on the outside of pipes, but not necessarily drip off

Is this noticed right after you fill up or always? If it is always then the cap is prolly your problem. Get another anyways they are not very much.

Just wondering is the gas cap you bought at the stealership a "general gas" cap for maximas or nissans overall? I am guessing they are not year specific for the cars, just for 5th generations... I will wait for your response then give the stealership $10 for a gas cap.....Thanks in advance...
