This is a great site you guys have going here. I like the plethora or technical info and enjoy reading "roadill" stories. I don't consider myself a racer by any means, but occassionally I find myself in stoplight drag races, usualy against honda punks (never lost to any, fortunately). I'm proud to say my roadkill list includes a BMW M3, Lexus G300, SC400 and an older Ford SHO. I have a 2k SE with manual tranny. Relatively conservative mods such as strut tower brace, powerstop rotors and a bumpin stereo system. I've had my Maxima for over about a year and half and have NEVER lost any races....until two nights ago. I was on my way home from Toronto and ran into this nice 90-93 Q45 in the parking lot of a service area. I actually couldnt' really tell what kind of car it was because it had a nice body kit on it and nice bronze rims and cross-drilled rotors. I complimented him on his rims and he told me he was a huge fan of Maximas and that his brother just got one.

I always heard that the old Q's were pretty sporty cars so I ask him "your car any fast?" and he responds by saying "fast enough for me." I finally asked him if he was interested in a race and the guy agrees to race all the way tothe n. Since it was like 2 in the morning we lined up right on I90 and I signaled the start. My launch was perfect with absolutely no wheelspin and all i heard was his tires squealing a bit. By the time I hit 60 he was about 5 feet ahead of me. And it just went downhill from there. By the time I was doing a buck the car was about 30 feet ahead. I figured I'd reel him in after that but as my th speedometer needle shook at 130mph he was a good hundred or so feet away from me and was still pulling away!! after aabout a minute of pushing my car past 130 I decided I'd better chill because it felt like the car was going to shake to pieces. I'm just puzzled how it could get away from me like that. aren't these Q's supposed to weigh a lot more than a max? I honestly felt like this was the fastest my car's accelerated and plus I had a perfect launch. At what speed does the governor limit how fast a 2k max goes? I'm seriously disappointed just because I lost to a snob-mobile. Anyone know the stats on those Q's?

correction

I had a typo in my post above: we agreed to race all the way to the next exit.

The old Q45 had 278 HP way back in 1990, it was a lower 15 second car.

Q was a highspeed bruiser

Hey bud, the older (90-93) Q's were the fastest Q's with the exception of the brand new 2002. They were rated at 0-60 in 6.8 and 1/4 mile 15.1 seconds. With these numbers, it should've been neck and neck. The Q's were only auto so if you fumbled your launch in anyway, then he owned you. It's not advisable to race these cars in high speed grand prix because although these car are rather tame luxocruisers they are beasts at speeds over 60 mph. I got a chance to drive a friends and beyond 60 mph the acceleration in this thing is crazy, even faster than my brother's 3000GT VR4. The reason why he pulled away a 130 is cuz I think these things go over 160 MPH and equipped with Jim Wolf ECU and Z rated tires a few have been reported to go as fast as 173 MPH. Let's face it, rear wheel drive cars are more rigid and are better suited to go that fast. At least you knew you're limit and knew when enough was enough and still in one piece. =)

Stillens has some great mods for those bad boys. Face it.....if the guy had a body kit, he most likely had some other mods too. Intake, ecu, exhaust puts the car at OVER 300hp! Stillen also sells a rear diff. for it too. They haul *** period. I heard one go WOT on my street the other day.....damn.....sounded like a train comming...

....

yeah i just checked the times for the older Q45 and it looks like on paper, it's just A LITTLE bit faster in the quarter mile. But these things look HUGE!! When we were side by side it looked like the car weighs signifantly more, i felt dwarfed. i didn't mention that before we raced I asked if he had any mods I should know about and he said all he had was JWT chips for the engine and trans. Man, I've raced quite a few cars and have never lost, more or less by that much. Too a bigass luxury car of all cars!!! The only indication were probably his rims, they were pretty wide in the back, maybe 10 inches? Max speed is 160? Didn't seem like it...I was pulling all the way til it the needle bounced around between 138-140 on the speedometer and it seemed like it was pulling away pretty quickly. If i were to guess i'd say the guy was doing a little over 170? I know that seems a bit much but damn, i still can't swallow this loss...Anybody have any chocolate?
