help,...i need to pass emissions
help,...i need to pass emissions
so i have an 0430 and i know is the rear bank catalyst below threashold, my ? - is there a way that i can sim this code to pass emissions? (2000 cali spec)
what do you guys with headers/y pipe do>
thanks for you help this is stressin me out

i did it last month... same code, same spec, same year.
Tons of threads on the O2 sim.... i had the code for almost 2 years and my inspection was up last month and I passed it full colors and CEL hasnt got back.

Dude, IF the mentioned codes were RELATED exclusively to O2 sensors, then yes, you'd be right. But that is NOT the case. Many have bought a full set of O2 sensors just to realize that the 0430 was still there...
IMHO it is the ECU in most cases, and the O2 sensor is the most reasonable solution for this particular situation.
I read and re-read every single post about 0430 and changing the O2 sensors could do it, but (unfortunately) most likely it wont.

Taking the short cuts to slice wires is a stop gap relief.

I got my P0430/P0420 (thanks to P013*, ignition coil failure and poor burning of gas) at around 80K miles.
I have clocked another 50K miles since replacing the O2s, no codes nothing.
I tried the O2 sim too, the heater started throwing codes and I had my emissions coming up. I could not afford to flunk that, since I had one and only one compute car.
Cats and Y pipe failure is a rareity these are purely mechanical components that last a very long time. I gave the O2 replacement a shot (any way these O2 don't last more than 80K miles and my stupid coils must have accelerated their demise) and it worked and I am happy. Saved my cats.

alrite so which sensor should i sim,... the downstream bank 2 sensor right? which is the red wire sensor? ,keep in mind im cali spec. .. and by that sensor its the second sensor in line witth the exhaust right? also... last week i did put a bung type sim sensor on there to potentially get rid of it and nthing happened

New O2 sensors could solve it and apparently worked fine for you. But that is a rare scenario regarding the 0430/0420.
My experience with 0430/420 is that the first step for Cali specs is getting the ECU re-flashed according to TSB. Then go from there.
Phuckers at the dealer were giving me a hard time ($99 + 1 full day without my car) so I went straight to O2 sim.
I also have concerns about "patching" failures on the car and I wanted the re-flash... but i was running out of time for my inspection.
