Need Exhaust.... Y pipe or not??

So the exhaust on my 01 max is shot. It completely broke apart at the muffler and pipe section. I need a new muffler indefintely after I took it to my local mechanic and we put it on the lift. Also the y pipe is bent and damaged as well as the hanger broke. I got a quote saying the price for the muffler and pipe unit would be $200 plus labor. Im thinking maybe I should spend the enxtra money and get exhaust. Im just checking to see if the Warpspeed pipes they offer on Ebay are legit. What would I need. Im looking at This muffler http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissa...spagenameZWDVW

Also do I need to buy the Warp Speed Y pipe With or with out the high flow precat.

budget y $170 + $40 for install
stock cat $free
custom 2.5'' bent b pipe $100
your muffler of choice but i would go with a nice straight through shiny magnaflow. they sound awesome very deep and mean... $150
total:$450 installed

oh and you'll gain about 20-25whp(assuming you have an intake). best mods for your money bar none.

high flow cats give you 1-2hp not worth the $ and they fail prematurely all the time asin less then a year sometimes.

cattman is high quality stuff but pricey for a full exhaust.

I assume he meant have one bent up for you at an exhaust shop. This is what I am going to try and have done tomorrow, new 2.25" b pipe from the cat back with no resonator and into the shiny new magnaflow dual 3.5" tipped muffler.

I'm wondering when people will finally snap/listen to me in that the stock b -pipe is hardly restrictive

I never said it was, the reason I am thinking of getting one is just to delete the resonator really so I may just have them cut that out and throw a piece of straight pipe in it's place.

I never said you said it was either. Why delete the resonator in the first place?

sorry i guess these dynos lie. they are the only ones i could find quickly:

http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/504

Looking at the above horsepower dyno, the y-pipe gave me:
  • A PEEK gain of about 18 HP (from 160 to 178)
  • An AVERAGE gain of 19 HP from 4,000 to 6,500 RPM (this in more important than peek, as you will see with the Torque chart below)
  • A 31 HP gain at 6,000 - 6,200 RPM
That works out to $14 per HP for the peek gain, and $8 for the 6,000 - 6,200 RPM gain.
The only down side is at 3,200 RPM, where I loose 3.5 HP. WHO CARES! When I shift at redline, the RPMs will ALWAYS be in the 4,000+ "meaty" section.

Looking at the above torque dyno, the y-pipe gave me:
  • A PEEK gain of about 4 foot-lbs of torque(from 178 to 182)
  • An AVERAGE gain of 19 foot-lbs, from 4,000 to 6,500 RPM
  • A 27 foot-lbs gain at 6,000 - 6,200 RPM
add a catback and expect to add about 3-5whp more imo.

i know these are for a 4th gen but it's basically the same engine with a diff IM afaik.

Sigh That particular dyno is deceptive and it's been covered before, so I'm not going to even get into that. but you DID say 20-25 whp.

Until you can show me 2 more dynos with those gains(18whp), from only a y-pipe, then I'll believe you.

That's like asking why modify a car at all, kind of a pointless question really. I removed the resonator simply because I wanted to and I have heard 3.5's without them and liked how it sounded, which I suppose is frowned upon by you but it's also not your car.

My point was that the b pipe isn’t restrictive, resonator or not.

The only thing I noticed on the stock parts that came off is that either the inlet or outlet to the resonator is severely crimped to half of the original pipe diameter (I believe 2" or 2.25" stock?) but otherwise I agree the rest of it didn't look restrictive.

There are dynos to prove this, but yes you're right.

I still have no idea where to buy a B pipe and also how do you know which mufflers fit.

There are prefabbed ones you can buy for big $$ for what they are, or you can do what I did and go down to a muffler shop and have them make a custom one for you like I did for $100 yesterday. As for mufflers, just about any 14"-20" case muffler with tips will fit, I got a 14" case magnaflow with 3.5" dual tips and it was still shorter than the stock muffler.

how is it deceptive? if anything i think it's explained well and broken up well so it can be easily understood. instead of saying it is deceptive explain how it is because obviously i don't understand. thx!

ya i did say 25. if i quoted peak i could have raised the number even more. and i said with a full exhaust and intake not just the y...

and if your going to talk and say that dyno is useless why don't you show me some other dynos that prove me wrong? instead of saying they are out there? i found a dyno, now you can find those you were talking about to prove me wrong. i don't mean to be rude but you can say whatever you want online but if you can't back it up(with examples) it's useless. i'v backed up everything i said would you do me the curtousy of doing the same? instead of just saying i'm wrong and my example sucks?

I have clanking noise coming from the right rear wheel side, especially when i run on bumps. It sounds like something is loose. But when I took a glimpse underneath the car, it seems like everything intact. Could it be the exhaust or muffler?

I switched my rotted oem exhaust for a full cattman setup with Y pipe and the gtech pro i have says i gained about 13hp but even Sunny at gtech says its not good for rating horsepower but 13 is about right for a 5th gen since we do have those cats on our y pipes but 20-25hp is kind of reaching a bit. Perhaps you meant 20-25hp on "the butt dyno".
Which as we know has bruised many ego's in the past.
