My best upgrade yet...

was to sell my 1995 White SE with 144K miles (5-speed) and upgrade to a 2002 White SE 6-speed. It's an amazing technological step up going from the 4th generation to the 5th. I have nothing but good thoughts about the 95 SE but it's amazing how nice the 2002 SE is.

Drove from Raleigh NC to Bethlehem PA to buy this car. It has:

- 42K miles,
- White pearlescent paint,
- Leather, Meridian option (LSD, metal pedals, heated seats/steering)
- Sunroof
- 6-speed.
- Garage kept by a married couple in their 50s.

Just installed HuperOptik-40 tint.

So I am now moving up the ladder to the 5th generation message board.

Congrats...

Just one question: What married couple in their 50s drives a Maxima SE with a 6-speed?

Hey, hey watch it Stereodude, in 8 yrs I'll be that 50 yr old guy still driving a 6 speed, with the automatic Mercedes as my steppin out car. Btw, nice move up man I made the jump from the 4th to 5th Gen myself this past Apr. I love my car. Oh yeah, I flew out to Maryland to get my car and drove it back 1200 miles one day after buying it.

I'm with ya! Except I'll hit that 50-age in 6 years. That's why I am leaning towards NOT modifying this great engine with CAI or exhaust/headers. Did this on the 95 Maxima and got tired of the drone.

This car is so much quieter and my wife warned not to do anything to make this car unlivable.

May post pictures this weekend.

That's right, even with headers and oem muffler the sound is nice and deep but not loud, only at WOT...

this is absolutely right.

i have a modified intake (wai tubing connected to the stock air box) + headers, and absolutely no drone. the only way to hear your exhaust is if you floor it, and even then, car sounds pretty quiet. conclusion is, main cat + stock resonator + stock muffler = reall good at keeping noise down.

on my last car (a 5.0 gen) i had intake + y pipe + b pipe and it sounded kinda aggressive. BUT! keeping the main cat + stock muffler made the car quieter than almost all catback exhausts.

just a little something i thought you'd like to know

i have the same exact car.2002 pearl white SE 6spd that i just bought a month ago...but without miridian package (its sucks not having heated steering wheel and seats in this 100degree weather..hehe) with two-tone Brown/Tan interior. love it so far, except that i dont have HLSD....dammit why?? why me?? oh well..i guesse i can live with that. well, enjoy your car and please post some pics....

Yes, it was an option on the 02's. It's within the engine code on the firewall.

Sounds nice would like to see some pictures, but Meridian Package does not signify HLSD my car has the heated steering wheel etc. but no HLSD.

welcome... i agree with you on the noise issue.. however, i have an intake with a stock muffler and the sound is wonderfully pleasant above 3,000 rpms and completely silent otherwise.. you might as well modify it to make if faster though... and if you wanna fool your wife, just keep it under 3,000 rpms while she's in the car and she'll never know

I just got my '02 Black/Black fully loaded 6-speed. LOVE it. SOOOO much nicer interior then my 95 and wrecked 98. I am having a hard time thinking about changing the 6 disc changer for a Pioneer AVIC-D3.

I know the D3 kicks ***, but the stock radio just looks nice .

5.5 FTW ... oil burn FTL. Mine does not have the problem ... yet. 76K.
