Bose stereo issues

I am interested in replacing my BOSE head unit with a different unit. I used to work for Circuit City, years ago, at the time we would not touch a maxima bose system because the entire system has to be replaced (ie. no aftermarket components would work in the system unless entire system was replaced)

My question is this: I have a 5th gen w/ BOSE, did they fix that problem with the 5th gen? or is it the same deal, no replacing any parts of the system without tearing out the whole system and building a whole new one? Any insight into this is welcome, thanks!

That is a lie they told you to tell customers. i'v changed only the HU in 3rd 4th and 5th gens with bose without any problems ever.

Also wouldn't this be better posted in the audio section of this forum?

Lots of goodies here. Including the adapters for the antenna and steering controls... thought they are too expensive for me.

MaxRide, I know someone that works at Circuit City and he told me a similar thing. Not that the HU couldn't be individually changed, but that it was best to just change everything due to the stock system allegedly being a 6 or 8 ohm setup.
I think the whole Bose setup is garbage anyway so I'm gonna change it all out hopefully!

Yes, ultimately I would like to change the whole system to but cant afford to at this point. THats good to know the change has worked for some people, I will give it a shot.

and no, it was not a lie they told us, I personally witnessed one install where the speakers were crackling and popping and one blew. It was our shops decision, not corporate, to no longer do component installs on bose systems.

Thanks for your input everyone! that has helped tremendously.
