Yes, it's illegal to tint your windshield.
I went with 37.5% metallic tint on the sides and 35% smoke tint on the rear. The tint place told me that it's actually lower with the added stock window tint. They said I could actually test lower than the Maryland legal 35%.

I don't know about llumar, but mine is fine at night. It took me a couple of days to get used to the darkness of my windows though. Now I don't even notice.

I think I have 15%, maybe 20%. It came from the dealer like that. (Demo car) No tint on the front or the sunroof. Why anyone would tint the front is beyond me and my sunroof is nearly always open. I open it up to -10 celcius ~+- 15 farenheit, blast the heat, but it's soo much fun.
Since it's white car the tint looks darker than it is.
The Max needs a ragtop version

In Maryland....
In Maryland the legal limit is 35% on all the windows in your car including the back windows.
I however tinted front, back and rear window to about a 20% black graphite tint. The sunroof has 3% limo tint. AND I tinted my windshield even though it is illegal, but I did that at only 50% smoke. Just enough to keep out the harsh sunrays
It is nice as ****, dont really care about getting pulled and having to pull it off, my friend owns the tint shop and no big deal to go back and put it back on. The hell with the tint laws.

THE LAWS
Hi all,
When I was thinking of tinting mine, I found these sites.
http://www.supertint.com/IWFA_Tintlaws_USA.htm
http://www.pcisys.net/~bpc/auto_law/tint/
The second one has clickable State 'titles' that will give you a very detailed description of the state law in question. Both sites are good for the "short version" too.
