wtf happened to the AMB button on the automatic temp. screen? Did they cancel this feature? 255HP, only 5HP less than was expected. Still ****ed at that...

I saw this too. Maybe it's gonna be on the mirror instead. But if it doesn't have this feature anymore, then that'll suck. I kinda like it.

from my theory (haha sounds cool saying that)
nissan is bringing z with 260 hp. now wouldn't it look bad if its sedans had the same hp. It is all based on buisness.

I remember someone saying that the ambient temperature readout is going to be in the trip computer screen in the instrument cluster. Kind of strange....

Interesting. Only 15 more hp than the 2002 Altima SE in a car that weighs more than the Altima. I suspect the Altima SE M/T will be faster than a Maxima A/T. But I wonder if the Maxima M/T will be faster than the Altima SE M/T?

Is Nissan setting a new trend in 2002?.......

.. By telling the public one thing and then delivering another? They said the new 2K2 Q45 had 340hp and did 0-60 in 5.8-5.9 sec, but when compared to the LS430 which has around 290 I think, the LS was faster then the Q45 to 60. The Q could only show a time in the mid 6's ? So I believe that the motor is putting out less then the 340hp stated. I just hope the 2K2 is putting out 255hp, you never know last week I thought it was getting 260?

Big deal 5hp. Anyone serious about perfomance will be modding this bad boy right away. I can see 275+ HP with bolt ons. And when that SC is on there with a 6spd it is going to be sick!

I understand what your saying PhatGuy and I can't front, I'll go and test drive a 2k2 to see what it feels like and then decide if it's worth the extra paper over a leftover 2k1. I'm just saying that the extra hp would have been better, because when it comes to aftermarket parts there will be alot more for the Altima then the Max so they will be matching us up the HP scale all the way. Because now if and when the S/C is made for the 2K2 Max it will also bolt right on to the 2K2 Altima so we will have our little brother in our A**.

The ambient temperature sensor is actually part of the auto climate control system, it's not designed to be a thermometer for the customer. That's why it takes forever for it to change when the actual temp changes. The AMB display was simply an afterthought placed there for customer convenience. A readout in the mirror with a different sensor would be much better, because it wouldn't take forever to change. It would have to have a different sensor if it's in the mirror because the mirrors are made by Gentex and the auto climate controllers are made by Calsonic. If the display were moved to the instrument panel trip computer, it's a possibility that the sensor would be shared because Calsonic makes those too.
I don't know where Nissan is saving money with the 2k2, but there are a few noticeable cuts on the 2k1 (I30 at least), such as only black Gentex mirrors instead of interior color-matched, deletion of pop-up dash compartment, and the infamous fuel filler pipe protector. If they can save 25 cents per car that is a fortune to their bottom line. Remember the latches on the old Chrysler minivans that were recalled because they tried to save 25 cents?

They took the pop up dash compartment off the 02 I30? If they did it's probably because now the space for the nav system will be on the console like the 02 Max instead of the top of the dash. So if an I30 didn't have the nav itd have in its place the bin..

the 2002 max has 5 less hp than expected cuz they need to differentiate between it and the i30. there will be that 5 hp difference, just like it's been.
