I just bought this to "remove" some (acutally lots) of swirl marks on my hood. It's not really that visible but when the sun shines on it, man it'll just make you wanna cry. That's what I get for buying a black car.

Question: I have the Mother's 3 way system of waxing which includes the Glaze already. I'm planning to apply the 3M before the Glaze; then I'll apply the wax.

But doesn't the Glaze suppose to cover the swirls also? Or applying the 3M SMR along with Glaze totally overkill?

Let me know how it works cause I have the same problem and it's not going away easily. My poor car looks like straight *** in direct sunlight...

Both of you guys need some safe cut remover. This is the best stuff in the world, go to the local parts shop and get the cust. svc.# off of the wax shop bottle and call them and order it. It removes all water spots and swirls and leaves no scratches. The wax shop bottle is beige and it is a liquid carnuba wax, the wax is awesome too. It doesn't leave any powdery residue in cracks or crevices. I had the meguires and it doesn't compare to the safe cut remover.

3M swirl remover works pretty good.....I tried on my gf's dark blue car. it pretty much took out a lot of them...but u can still see some under the sun.

this is how I use it
-wash the car and dry it
-clean the car surface with Mcguier (sp?) paint cleaner
-apply 3M swirl mark remover
-wax the car

pretty much the swirl remover is another layer of polish. so I didnt use any other polish this time.

If you're using the swirl mark remover, there is no need for the hand glaze.

I use the 3M light grade rubbing compound in the spring only, followed by the SWM, then the 3M Perfect-It Wax. During the summer and fall, I use only the last two steps. I also have the hand glaze but I use it sparingly, only when I want a short term shine for a weekend.

For me, the glaze/sealer and the 3 phase system removed 90% of my swirls. I think you should use the swirl remover, then glaze it.

The 3M glaze remover actually hide the swirl, but the glaze is more than that, its there to add deaph. So you should still use the glaze after swirl remover, then wax. Polish with the mothers phase1 before you do anything.

What I do is using dish washing machine detergent to wash the car, then polish phase 1, 3M remover, glaze, then 6 layers of wax. I see no swirl marks until the 6th times I wash.

If you use the swirl remover properly, there are no swirls so the glaze is not needed. It does add shine but remember, it's *just* a glaze so it evaporates within a few days.

6 layers of wax? You only need two thin layers..

So the 3M swirl mark remover fills in the swirls (non-abrasive) or does it cut them down (abrasive)?

How is the rest of the 3M line? I am surrently using McGuires Gold Class and while it does a decent job, I am not thrilled at how long it lasts. I don't actually mind putting it on, I can get it done in 3 hours (including wash), all by hand.

Yes, it's an abrasive polish.

The light grade rubbing compound and liquid wax works great. I've used it on my 300ZX and now on my Miata. 3 hours? Man, it normally takes me 4 hours on a small car like the Miata, 5 hours on the Z. I use a 2hand variable speed buffer, too.

I have to agree, and have stated this on previous posts. SafeCut from the Waxshop is one of the best and least abrasive removers for swirls. You must follow with some filler or wax though as it will only last a couple of hours. Zaino is pretty good also with the z-5 but you must do everything per directions and sometimes only spot work is necessary.

As a bonus, use safecut on your taillamps and headlamps when waxing and you'll be amazed at their brightness and look. Pulls off all sorts of stuff that wasn't apparent.
