20th Ann.. looooong

Ok.. I was at my dealers the other day, browsing through the lots. Same old car's. I parked and got out to look at the 2k1 Black SE they had, i've been drueling over this for several weeks now. Only problem being, the car was dusty as sin. I wondered if they had another inside yet, i havnt been inside in the showroom in about a week, and all they had was a maroon one i wasnt to fond of. As soon as I open the door, what do i notice but a grey maxima. This wasnt any grey maxima, I noticed the "bronze" headlights... and the body kit in the front? Oh god.. could this be? I quickly circled around to the back.. yes.. its true, I saw the badge and almost fainted. This car was so beautiful. Anyway.. every dealer and thier mother was hovering over my shoulder, pointing everything out, even the 20th anniversary floormats, and the new chrome "maxima" door step things. Sticker price was $30,000. Now I know its going to be impossible to negotiate, since its rarity in this area, i want a blue one anyway. BUT is it really worth it? I mean like everyones saying, for a couple grand more you could have a BMW, and all my friends are saying I should get an IS300 instead. But for those who havnt seen it, all the pictures on the internet don't do it justice, you really have to go check them out. What do you guys think? worth the price??

the car is not a value.
I dont think resale will really hold much higher. They arent really a collectors item. But if you personally find value in alittle exclusivity and find the looks that appealling, then go for it. I would demand at least 1000-2000 off list, anything less is far too much.
There are people who dont flinch spending $8000+ over MSRP for a S2000. I'm not one of them. But thats the price you pay to be the first on your block. Personally I think they are preying on the maxima enthusiast with this pricing.
But, again... its just a matter of what its worth to you. I cant deny it has appeal, and that is the price of admission.

my wife and i bought one a few weeks ago.
Even though we couldn't talk the dealer down to a price as cheap as a 2k1 SE we still think it was worth it.
We bought a blue auto 2k1 SE AE for over $1k off of the MSRP (over $30k).
So far it has been an awesome car.
Incredibly smooth and quick for cruising the Texas hill country. Stiff chassis. Supple suspension.
My wife gets lots of looks driving it around.
It is so quiet inside my wife could hear my fingers touching the rims of my sunglasses this weekend.
And the blue color is beautiful.
The Lexus IS300 is too damn small. A guy at work just bought a blue one and it is nice but not in the same class as the Maxima. The IS300 feels as small as my Protege.
Get a 2k1 SE AE. That way you will have a really rare car.

As for the AE. I am going to get a 2k se, which is cheap now since the 2k1's are coming, and ill probably get the body kit that fits the AE. I personaly like the AE body kit better than the stillen (dont criticize).
And for the Tercel, i mean IS300. My mom told me if I had nothing nice to say about something, dont say anything at all. So I dont care to talk about the IS300.

I went to a dealership to look at the 20th AE on last Saturday as well. The salesman told me that Nissan only built 500 of them. They sold the silver (Sterling Mist??) already. Only a black one left in the showroom and they will not get any more. Fully-loaded, very nice. The only problem is that they would not sell it for anything less than MSRP ($31,015).
Sad.

The car looks like I buried it in mud. I actually drove it around the neighborhood yesterday in a clean downpour to try and knock most of the mud off.
so, just as soon as I get a sunny day to wash it I will post pics over in

Maybe they built 500 in a few weeks. LOL. Actually the number being tossed around is 5000-6000 of AE's will be manufactured.

limited to 10,000 units
The 2001 Maxima SE AE is limited to 10,000 units according to the administrator of FreshAlloy.
"Unlike previous "Limited Editions" this one is really limited to 10,000 units. "
I don't know if this is true or not.
I am interested in finding out how many blue ones will be produced.

20th Anniversary SE
I bought my wife one Friday night. Got the Merlot with Auto, black leather and Bose. MSRP $30476. Paid $27122 +TTL as listed on AutoNation's website. They weren't too happy that I came in with that page printed out. "We're selling these for list" Oh, well.

I've had an '01 A.E. for about a month and a half now. I really like the car. I did pay MSRP ($30K), but I like the idea of having a car that's a little bit unique. I had been looking at an Audi S4, which is $10K+ more than the A.E., so it didn't seem as bad to me. I also wanted a car right away, and there it was, ready to go. I think if you wait a few months until there are a few on the lots in your area, you should be able to get nearly as good a deal on an A.E. as you would on a regular S.E. If you think about it, 10,000 cars isn't that "limited" of an edition. Just wait for the supply and demand to tilt in your favor.

$ 30,000.00 ..... Damn...
I thought that the whole point of owning a Max was to get an affordabe Performance sedan... but 30K is a bit on the high end for a few add-ons... I am totally shocked that no one has even mentioned the best reason the AE is even worth considering if you have the cash... a LIMITED SLIP-DIFFERENTIAL.... How can I get one of those puppies.. in my Max... or does Quaife make one?.
anyways I have spent 8K modifing my car and let me tell you I will blow the AE right off the road... and I am still under the 30K the AE is selling for...

I just got the 2001 20th,and if you look around there is no equivalent car for that price and for the BMW if you live in CA you might be right still you will have to put few more K to buy it, but up here in Canada having a BMW in winter will get you nowhere and honestly the Maxima has a great potential and if you are willing to spend few k this dad's car can kick ***.

Cost
So, if I get rid of the Auto, Leather and Bose, I save ~$2700 which would bring the price down below $24500. Does that make it acceptable? Question, If you spend over 50% of the original cost of the car on modifications, do you still have a Maxima?

looking at the A.E. He is asking for list and doesn't
want to budge. He then tells me they are selling for
$4000 over list in CA, so I shouldn't complain.
I didn't believe him, but any truth to that?
