Has anyone seen this tsb or know what it says?
Heres the direct webpage link to it on the www.nhtsa.dot.gov site:

I would appreciate any info you have, especially after my transmission made a "trrrrrrt trrrrrrrt wham!!!" sound when I was pulling out of a parking lot this weekend.

sounds like the symptoms described in the previous one in the sticky thread above. Is it newer than that one?

I have a friend of mine here in so cal that replaced both tcm's and put on my Unorthodox underdrive pulley at the same time, what a difference.

I believe the reason for the TSB revision must be the new solenoid, the A bulletin called for 85X03, however that part has been replaced by 85X04, I think that's enough to trigger a revised bulletin. Also the date of the B bulletin is March 2001, around the time the new solenoids were introduced. Fortunately I waited until May to get the solenoids done and got the 85X04. I wonder about the people that got the 85X03 solenoids, are they eligible for another replacement or is it tough luck? The bulletin should clarify this, so it would be nice if someone could get it and post it. Another odd thing, NHTSA lists the bulletin for the Maxima but not I30.

I had my TCM replaced way back when the first slippage problems occured, way before the solenoid TSB. Now that I ma driving 180 miles a day with a good portion of that in stop and go I've noticed a few things....

when I'm slowly coasting and then give it a bit of gas, the engine will rev a bit and them slam and I mean slam into gear...is this slippage that I need checked or is the car perhaps being in a higher(2nd) gear and downshifting hard into first? I get some power and acceleration right before it slams into gear...to me it seems like the tranny is stuck in a higher gear and then is downshifting real hard but I might be wrong...

I've heard that if you don't come to a complete stop that the car will sometimes hang in a higher gear and then downshift violently when you apply the juice....true?

Mine was the same way. I got the new TCM and it helped a little. After I got the new solenoid (85X03) it eliminated all problems.

I have the 85X03 solenoids also.... I wonder what the difference is between these and the X04 solenoids

I hope it's minimal. Maybe they scaled back the firmness. 85X03 are the hi performance version.

Guys,

You should seriously consider some sort of class action lawsuit. Nissan should be hung out on this one. They tried to be cheap by tweaking instead of strengthening a tranny that would have 32 ponies added on.....really sad....

I thought about it when it occured. They've fixed the problem though and under warranty. They gave me a free rental, so what damages could I seek?

My opinion:

These "fixes" are nothing but patches until the 60k powertrain warranty is up......after that Nissan can tell you all to fix it yourself.....

I hope I'm wrong, but when you have solenoid issues, TCM issues, you are sooner or later gonna have entire tranny issues.......this already with less than 20 or 30k on most of your cars!

Damages to seek: a new transmission

Hmmm.... I don't know. The solenoid fix was for real. It changed the transmission performance greatly. In the TSB they instruct dealers to replace the transmission if metal shavings are found. None were found in my case. (Last year) I think Nissan is taking reasonable action on this. I don't think a class action suit will go anywhere. Nissan had a problem and they fixed it.
