Your stock shocks won't be able to handle the load. You might as well change the shocks while you are in there. I just bought my shocks yesterday and I have H&R sport springs waiting to be put on. I think with KYB AGX shocks the total came to about $6-700. I wouldn't recommend stock shocks with aftermarket springs.

if you have an SE, you might be able use the stock shocks for a year, but after that, the tokico get trashed easily.

if you have gxe or gle, dont even think about using H&R with it.

if you are getting new springs, you may as well do the shocks at the same time. It isn't worth it to do two suspension jobs. I am going to wait to see if the KYB's come out for the 5th gen....

installation was $190, and $40 alignment (some say you dont need the alignment, but my car was leaning to the left)

DO NOT put in the springs only! i have an SE and i put my eibachs without any struts. well, its been about 10k since and my SE struts are almost dead. i am definitely going to have to buy struts soon and spend an extra 150-180 installing the struts. shouldve done it together, oh well.

they should last a longer than the tokicos... plus the KYB AGX are adjustable. You can actually adjust them while they are still installed on the car. Konis are good also, but you need to take them off, stick them in a vice, and then adjust them...

Ok sounds good, do you know if they'll be more costly that the tokicos or Koni's?

They probably more expensive than Tokicos but slightly cheaper than Konis. But, I got word from KYB that the shocks for the 5th gen will be available late fall of this year. I don't know if it is worth waiting that long.... I may just get the Konis. The Konis will probably last the longest anyways.

H&R's are forgiving and they probably don't put too much stress on the shocks anyways. You could probably get by with H&R's and stock shocks....

no.... I don't think so. They may actually put a little more stress on the suspension....but probably not too much I think.

macpherson is the type of strut setup..... not a brand. The stock SE struts are made by Tokico...

oh please...that SE pride thang again..
nah, my stock shocks were good enough for a 1 year with my eibachs(they are still not blown by the way...), i just changed them with tokicos cuz i thought the shocks were getting little bit softer....
i should've gotten the Konis but oh wellz....

get the shocks and springs at the same time. just because you don't have to pay twice for the suspension mod.

I thought that the maxima had struts and not shocks. How can you fit shocks when have struts? Someone please enlighten me. Also I thought Mcpherson was also a brand since i seen them advertised many at tire shops.

McPherson is the type of strut assembly... not a brand. I think the front suspension on the maxima uses struts, while the rear uses shocks.... the two terms are used interchangeably though most of the time....

I'm not positive on this one but i think front and rear are all struts. i looked in the koni websites and seen pics of shocks and not struts for the 5th gen maximas. Confused as to how they would fit.

The koni fronts are cartridges that are mounted in the stock strut housing. The rear are plain bolt on....

So the cartriges go in the middle of the strut housing or something like? I'll have to check the their site. Pretty interesting. Mcpherson is not a brand name then and it would explaind why i hear monroe Mcpherson struts...Thanks for the info.
