Sup Fellas,

I got the Random Tech Cat a couple of months ago but still haven't installed it yet because I'm debating on which way to go w/my catback...I want to do it all at once. When I talked to the guy at Random Technology, he asked whether I was a Cali-Spec or a Fed Spec....I am a Cali-Spec. I asked him if I needed the 2.5' Cat or the 3.0' one and he told me I needed the 3.0' one! After doing a bit a research, I found that there wasn't much difference between the two but the bigger diameter Cat would provide for higher flow of air which is better!
Now I looked on CustomMaxima.com and it says there that if you dont have an SC, you should have the 2.5' Cat...only people with an SC should have the 3.0' Cat. You guys heard anything different? Does it really matter which Cat you get; the 2.5' or the 3.0'? Holla back...

is your cat back going to be 2.5" or 3"? I don't think it will make a huge difference either way. Going with 3" won't gain you a whole lot. I'd just get the 2.5", especially if you are planning on staying NA.

3" is way to big for NA... I personally think it's even big for a sc'ed car. I have the 2.5" cat.

Hey Kev, from experience does the Random Cat. provide more torque and hp to where you can feel the diffrence. I saw this advertised on there site and I questioned it. I was thinking about getting one.

Sometimes the difference in flow rates is not a function of the honeycomb "brick" inside the shell, but rather an improvement in transitioning the flow from the round exhaust line into the flat oval of the converter and then back to round. As explained to me by a Random Tech rep, that is specifically the reason that their 4" in/out converter has a higher flow rating than their 3.5"/3.5". The "bricks" inside are identical. It might be worth another call to find out if a similar situation exists for the 3" vs 2.5", in which case you might as well get the 3".

Stick with the 2.5" setup. There is no need, as stated, for the 3" for an all motor car.

FYI, I can do $170 SHIPPED on the 97-01 RT 2.5" cat.

If .5' inches DOES make that much of a difference, then I guess I should make arrangements to send it back. But if I can still function well with a 3.0' cat and get a higher flow with it...in other words if the performance would not be hindered either way, I might as well stick with the 3.0'. I guess the best way to find out is if I call Random Technology and ask them....I'm basically ****ed off right now because I already have the 3.0' cat and I dont want to have to bother mailing it back in for the 2.5' one. Hopefully they'll give me some good news....I'll let you guys know.
