As I mentioned in a few posts before, I plan on buying a 5th Gen in the next few months. I have decided to go for a 2001 Max SE because it will be more cost effective than a 2002 would be (as far as I am concerned.)

Bottom line, what are the most cost effective mods that are available for this car? I have heard mixed reviews from reading your posts about the UDP and the SC, but I want to know if it is honestly worth it. If you could provide approx prices including S&H, I would be most greatful. Appearance mods are alright. I don't mean things like rims, because I like the SE 17 inch rims.

It is going to be weird to buy a new Max after spedning so much time with my 94. I feel almost shameful and like I am 2-timing my friggin' car.

Thanks again. Oh BTW, I don't have time to do a search and read every post since the beginning of time. I read the FAQ & Installation stickies but I just want to hear everything from the mouths of the owners.

Suspension:

FSTB ~ $100 for Courtesy FSTB
RSB ~ $230 for Stillen RSB
Springs/Struts ~ at least $700

Engine:

Intake ~ depends on what type
Y-pipe ~ $350 for stillen, $400 for cattman
UDP ~ $200
SC ~ $4000 (can't use with UDP)
VB mod if you are auto ~ $450
STS if stick ~ ???

These are probably the most worthwhile mods that will surely make a difference (especially the SC ).

SC = fun

The only downside is that you might run into problems with the V2 SC.

Since you seem to be the SC guru of this board, when did you get it installed? What was your total cost with parts and labor? Who did your installation? Time required? What other things have to be changed when adding the SC? Are there any negative affects from adding it? Gas mileage, lag, etc? Engine life? Were there any other parts required to be purchased besides what come with the SC? You mentioned V2 SC. There's more than 1 SC available for the 5th Gen? What's the difference?

What are the problems with the V2? I heard that the V1 was loud (squealing). I think I heard of some reliability problems with early V2s (bad bearings?)
