Tooling along towards a cloverleaf exit. Wouldn't you know it a TL gets in front of me. I don't push him but I kinda let him know that he could be going a *LITTLE* faster.

So, comming out of the leaf to a 2 wide service road I drop to 2nd, nail it and leisurely make my way to the left hand lane. He seems to punch it and goes left too, so I stay in the right. So I am sitting behind this guy, 1-2 lenghts behind, gaining on him and he is trying to keep up.

By the time I am @5500 in 4th I realise I have to make my exit. He is behind me by 1-2 cars. (me thinks me won!)

Now comes the ugly part. I realise that I have an exit to make. I shift one lane right (a new lane opened up) and ***NAIL*** the brakes. By this time I am doing some 100 MPH. (someone else can do the math) The ABS kicks in and I think I heard the ABS calling for backup. I get to the corner get off the brake, give it a bit of gas and throw it in, hoping for the best. (If I would have stood on the brakes I would have gone around or straight through) I make it around the corner (90 degrees in 300-400 feet) with the grace of an elephant in a china shop.

As soon as I get around the corner, half ****ting my pants half laughing my *** off I start smelling this sweetish burning smell. At this point I realise that the stock brakes are worth **** and I will be looking for major league upgrades soon. (at least rotors and pads, if I can find a 2 or 4 piston caliper that sits on the same hanger all the better)

Go fast, stop hard.

 

Where was it? A-440? 13? 15? 19?

 

Going along 440 west to 15 south, next to Carefour Laval. The last minute right hander was into the parking lot of the Carefour (where the old Odeon was) (you must know what that 90 degree is like!)

Actually, I'm from Trois-Rivières (where the dealer never have a 5-sp Max in stock , maybe I'll test drive the 6-sp at Longueuil Nissan ). Sometimes, I use the 640-25-440 corridor to by-pass the Metropolitan.

if you are really getting new brakes, I dont think 4 piston is worth it. Unless you can get a really good price on it.

No, I don't think I toasted them... I KNOW I toasted them!

I'll probably try some Brembo cross drilled in front with some porterfields and SS or braided brake lines.

 

Z calipers. You can pick them up from a junkyard and get a rebuild kit from the dealer.

 

Are Z calipers a direct retro fit or do I need a new hanger and rotors and the like? I really don't want to go to a larger rotor because I still want to put my 15 inch steel wheels on in the winter.

I guess I am off to the how-to section.

 

Ohhh.... nevermind then. Your wheels will need to clear the calipers. 15" steel wheels will not fit.
