I have had mine for about a month now and it is pretty much dead silent most of the time. Under heavy throttle you can hear it, but it's all good

As for the idle, it sounds normal to me....

How does a CAI sound at idle? I'm thinking of getting it now. My old JWT popcharger made an annoying hiss noise at idle. I have a good idea what it sounds at WOT.

you still get that same hiss but it's amplified a lil more because of the filter location

Get it! Get it! Get it!

The hissing isn't too loud if your A/C compressor is not on.

I don't understand. You would think the cone filter in the engine bay would expose the hiss more. The cone filter is closer to the firewall. Or does the CAI inside the fender act as an amplifier?

Kev, still have the Place Racing stock, do you?

I think I need to check this out in person before deciding. Time to track down MD2KMAX

hmmm are you talking about noise from inside of the car or outside of the car?

from inside i know you can still hear the pop charger. with the cai you can't hear the hissing from inside. from outside of the car it's audible...

Actually I was thinking more from the inside. Outside is important too. That old Jim W comment about bad Pintos exhaust sound is still stuck in my head.

Yup, I still have it, but I might need it for a future mod.

Yeah, it's a good idea to check one out before deciding.

i'm assuming the 5th gens are still the same as other gens and if so yes you have to drill a hole. mine had to be 3.5" My CAI is from Place Racing but it was purchased from Cattman when he used to resell them. Now he makes his own.

The hissing sound, I get that from my version of OSCAI, which I will post a picture when I get it from my digital camera. It look kind of ghetto, but it works good, sounds ok. hisses some more like a turbo, well a quiet one. But from the outside of the car, with it moving at WOT, it sounds great, the Place Racing one. The Cattman CAI uses PR's upper and lower pipe and they use their own connectors, clamps and MAF adaptor. I'm thinking about getting that one... and maybe powdercoat it red later on. I don't feel like paying $20 more for a different color.

oh well
