Gold in a bottle my friend. I had a 5spd SHO with a grinding 2nd gear. RL MT-90 virtually eliminated grinding the gear. No oil can repair damage but it did buy me time to save money for a rebuild. I use MTL in my 5spd 2k max as well as engine and power steering oils. Nothing is better sorry to say to anyone who disagrees out there. Unlike most products RL is no snake oil, it's the pinacle of lubrication technology and I'll NEVER use anything else.

It has made a world of difference in my Protege.

The shop recommends it for all Japanese cars that are driven hard.

What I've heard about redline is that the stuff works great BUT that it will cost you your syncros in the long run.

How is that exactly?? -->

If it's gonna wear out the synchros, then it's not providing sufficent lubrication. Amsoil has very high film strengths in their gear oil.

Well, i'm not trying to make any claims here, b/c i have no evidence. Just passing on what I've heard with hope that someone here can confirm or dismiss that statement.

I vaugly remember why, so vaugly that I can't explain. But if you think about it for a minute...it's purpose is to help the syncros spin up faster to allow faster smoother shifts. With that in mind you can guess what comes as a result...increased syncro wear.

Actually synchros slow down gears to allow them to mesh not speed up so I highly doubt wear will increase from that. RL has enormous film strength and is indeed the pinnacle of lubricant technology for many reasons other than that as well. I was watching an F1 race a few years ago and a car pulled into the pit for a problem and I saw them adding RL to the car. Now obviously I couldn't read the bottle but its shape is distinctive so I'm pretty sure of what I saw. Also, something out there is the best oil available right? Why not RL? What truely is better? I'll agree in an instant that for the vast majority of us mobil 1 is more than enough but if I'm gonna wind an sc to 15000rpm or a turbo to 100k rpm then I'll pay whatever the price to get the best there is. Lastly, it never ceases to amaze me all of the people who buy a $30k or pricier car and want to save a couple bucks on oil. God damn tightasses! Love ya all and thanks for letting me rant.

Not to be a wize a$$ but what happens when downshifting? and i seriously think that upshifting causes a comparable amount of wear.

I am no way claiming to be an expert, you may be 100% right but for the number of times I drive hard enough to require the benefits of RL it's not worth the worry of expensive tranny repairs in the future.
