Last night as I'm cruising around this Camero RS with this loud freakn' exhaust blows by me so I decide to catch up to him. From the sound of his exhaust I surmised that he probably had a V6 and not a V8 under his hood and I was able to tell that he definitely had a 5-speed. We end up side by side at the light but unfortunately I notice this cop sitting in the gas station next to us. Needless to say I'm not going to be stupid and street race right in front of the police but I do decide to rev the guy to see if he's game. As the light turned green he peels out and takes off and I totally expected the cop to go after him but to my surprise he didn't. I end up next to this joker again at the next light and he looks over at me with this smug smirk on his face as if to say, "Yeah I just smoked you." Well now the trap is set and he took the bait hook, line and sinker. I rev him again and torque/brake the car to 2700 rpm and hammer it as the light turns green. We were even till about 35 mph and then BOOST baby BOOST sets in and it was BYE-BYE Mr. Camero. I was about 1 and 1/2 car lengths in front of him when we shut it down around 80 mph for the next up coming light. Now I look over at him as he pulls up along side me with this look on his face and he just burns out and takes an immediate right at the light. I guess he didn't want to have another go at it again? That was the most enjoyable road kill I've had to date.

The RS was a camero not a stang and I'm not sure what the horsepower rating is or their 0-60 or 1/4 mile times are. I haven't been to the track YET mainly b/c it is just too freakn' hot here in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area (100 degrees plus). I will be going this fall when the temperature drops significantly and after I have the ERL Aquamist intake cooler installed. Believe me I'm just as anxious to get to the track and see what I'll be able to do in the 1/4 mile. I'll post my times as soon as I hit the track.

Boost Lag?

Does it really take until 35mph until you get into the boost, that seems way too long? Did you ever take it down the 1/4 mile since the sc install? How Much boost are you running?

I have a Kenne Bell screw (positive displacement) supercharger on my Mustang GT (89) and I see 5psi of boost as soon as my foot hits the floor from a dead stop. Jackson Racing make a sc like this for the Ford Focus and Honda Civics, simialr sc's come stock on mercedes and gm's. If I put on an 8 psi pulley, I see 8psi from 1500rpms up to 6000 (redline). It makes over 400ft/lbs of torque from 2000 rpms on up. We need Jackson or Eaton or someone to make a positive displacement kit for our cars.

No it doesn't have that bad of a lag but you can REALLY begin to feel it sink you into the seat at around 4k rpms and by 35 mph its pulling like a bat out of hell. Maybe it was closer to 30 mph but I was paying more attention to the road than the speedo. I wish I felt the boost the minute I floored the car like in your stang, but the delayed effect is sometimes kind of cool b/c all of a sudden the car comes alive and surprises a lot of people. The lag is the only thing that kind of bums me out sometimes. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to get rid of it. Hey how about a sneaky peat!

If you put a smaller pully on, it would produce more boost down low as well as up high, but you might need other things to do that (bigger fuel injectors, remapped computer chip)

How much boost do you run? Ever have it to the track?

If it was a newer camaro they have a 3.8 liter 200hp v6. I think i have seen a 0-60 in 7.1 for a stick. 1/4 mile i am not sure. I am so looking forward to getting my supercharger next year. My buddy has a 2000 trans am 305hp 6 speed and i am hoping to stay next to him, if not beat him on the highway. Nice Kill!

It is an intake air cooler. It is produced by ERL, a company in England, and has been used extensively in Europe for years now. It uses an alcohol/H2O mixture that is injected into the intake tube at 300 psi and will cool the intake air by 70-80 degrees F, thus generating more HP!! (Supposedly 20% more FWHP) My shop is getting the units in this week and will be installing them on some cars. I'm going to wait and see what the actual HP gains are as measured on their dyno B4 opting to get the system, but it looks promising.

On Corral.net (Mustang Site) there are some guys running Water/Alcohol injection to cool the intake charge. I am not sure how much power it produces on its own, but I know that the main benefit is that you can run more boost without detonation fear. It also allows them to run more timing.

It kind of works like an intercooler. I have also heard of people with sc's running a small amount of nitrous. It works sort of the same as the water/alcohol, although refilling water/alcohol would be much cheaper!

I think the kit they use is around $350, so for a Maxima it should be around $700

Hey Kevin I like how you converted the SE to SC (slow car yeah right Your gauges are too cool!! I really like the blue back light. Hey have you had your car dynoed yet since the supercharger install? I know you've probably been asked this a thousand times but what kind of boost are you seeing with the 3.25 pulley and at what rpm does it register on the "BUTT DYNO"? Later.

The earlier base Camaroes had a 3.4L OHV V6 rated at 160HP. This engine is comparable to a VG30E automatic in performance. The newer ones, 1996+(?) have the 3.8L OHV 200HP V6 that is comparable to the VQ30DE-K when left in full automatic. They run low 16's/high 15's.
