2000 GLE Grey-Clear Coat failing
My dealer tells me that the foamy looking pattern in the clear coat finish, located on the top of the car (about 2" in diameter), is a result of bird droppings that were baked on in the sun; supposedly the acidic level of the droppings penetrated the clear coat. My first Maxima & first new car-can anyone tell me if this is in fact a failure? I bought my car Oct 29, 1999. Personally I think the dealer is trying to avoid the issue.
You should ALWAYS....
..remove any contaminants from your finish IMMEDIATELY! This includes, but not limited to, bird droppings (VERY acidic), tree sap, berry stains, tar, even dead bugs smashed on the hood. The longer you wait, the more they will "cure" onto your finish and cause trouble for you. The main reason to wax the car is to put a sacrificial barrier between your paint and the outside harsh world. If you plan to leave the car for days on end and do not check it every day, invest in a good custom car cover to further reduce the chances of the elements attacking your paint. Good Luck Bro!
Thats why I carry in the trunk...
...this pump spray bottle of Blue Coral tar and bug remover and some soft rags (I use old socks!). If I see something that just don't look right, I zap it with this stuff and CAREFULLY wipe it off. Try not to scratch the finish, use very gentle pressure, sort of roll the blue gel onto the rag without grinding it in. Works pretty good, and smells like oranges to boot! It's saved my a$$ more than a few times when I was away from my usual stockpile of cleaner products.

Dealer Suggestion.
My dealer told me not to hand wax my car for at least a year. No ****!! I kinda wish they would not have put that SPECIAL coating on. It sounds to me like it will eventually flaw unless for example your last name is Hakimoto and you keep your Max in a climate controlled & locked garage for at least say 365 days a year.
No, I am not ignorant, I just like sarcasm. My car is definitely faster with the air off, and the E-brake down.

From what I understand from the guy, he was talking about the hard coating (that is over the paint), not the paint itself. I dontno I will prob. wax it soon anyway, it's killing me. You know the virgin thats willing and I'm just scared to hurt her.. HA
