My automatic is acting up again. I already had the tsb done but now it's something new. When I take off I here a rattle like a heat shield makes when it's loose and my car won't accelerate. The rpms don't go up they just hang around 2500-3000.It only does this once in a while and doesn't seem to follow any pattern. Has anyone run into this before?

What mods have you done to your max? I had both TCM's replaced on my car by request. The TSB for the transmission says to replace 1 but if problem persists replace both. Take it back at the Nissan dealership where you had the work done and request them to replace the 2nd TCM.

I had the tcm replaced and the solenoid. The transmission was slipping bad before I had the work done so I'm thinking it might have been damaged. This is alot different than before. It sounds like something is going to let go when it starts rattling.

Take it back to the dealer and demand to have it fixed right this time...

it won't go past 2500 rpm in any gear? It may be that the car is in safe mode for some reason.... take it to the dealer, they will be able to diagnose it fully.

Is it possible for the MAF to act up only once in awhile? This problem doesn't happen very much but when it does it really bites. It's only when I hear the rattle that the RPMs don't go up past 2500-3000. Also what would the rattle noise be ?

I was talking to a friend of mine who's a tech at Mossy Nissan and he told me he has seen some computer "hickups" on 5th gen Maximas. Try and disconnect your battery for about 2 hours so your computer can reset itself. Re-connect your battery and take your Maxima out for a cruise and see if it happens again.
