I do, I do, I do ... but then again I don't

I got mine today but upon install i found that one of the ballasts was bad, so one light wouldn't work at all. One did and it looked great, but couldn't go around town as the one eyed HID guy.
yeah there's a fuse in the inline fuse carrier. the kit came with two extra 20w fuses and a 30w fuse. Did you guys have to replace any fuses to a bigger fuse?
I just hear a clicking noise when i turn it on. It worked once, and then the second time it didn't. I'll be testing it out my wiring with an amp meter, but to tell you the truth i'm not sure what i'm lookin for.
where did you guys ground your wires to by the way?

Still haven't got mine! Supposed to be here by Wednesday.
It seems like more and more people are having problems with the Panasonic kits. Adam and someone else had a bad bulb, and now ispeed. I sure hope they're not all going to have problems eventually. However, Hogan seems to take care of problems quickly, I just hope he's in business for awhile so I can get spare parts.

I think the stock harness is where i'm having problems. Hogan suggested splicing the wires in the back of the harness even though it might be a pain in the ***. I'm hoping for a better solution. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress. Thanks ru4real for the info.
You should hear clicking when the relays operate. You did plug the HID relay into the stock headlamp harness, right?

how did you pinpoint it to a bad ballast? I'm having trouble with mine and hogan said that it might be an electrical problem. The install isn't as easy as i thought.

I had one side (the passenger side) working but the other side (the driver's side) not working. I first tried switching the bulbs while keeping everything else constant. The passenger side still was the side working so I know it's not the bulbs. I then went to the starters and switched them. Once again the pass side worked but nothing on the driver's side. I then switched ballasts. Aha, now the side working has switched. I knew then that there was where the problem was starting. I switched the two ballasts back and then double checked all my wiring and made sure all (in's were in and out's were out, etc.) I checked the fuses. I checked my grounds and then I checked the relays. By series of deductions, I was able to pinpoint the problem to the ballast.
Just call me John Holmes ... I mean Sherlock Holmes.

Yeah I got in contact with Hogan and everything is working itself out.
Thanks Hogan and yo its ok!
That's sorta my situation at the moment. One side will work and the other wont and then i'll flick the switch sometimes and then the other one will work and then a couple more times both of them will come on, and now both of them don't come on. It's actually pretty frustrating. NOt sure what is going on. Any thoughts?

Have you checked the grounds? If you have both of them grounded together it would lead me to believe that both would not work poperly at the same time, but if they are seperate ... you would have to have some real bad luck to have 2 bad grounds. If they aren't working period now, check your fuses in the fuse box next to the battery. There are two 15 amp fuses there that are for the Left and Right side head lamps. They are independant of one another. There is also a relay for them on the other side ... check those b/c they might have gone bad.
If you have a multimeter check for power in and out on those relays. Granted your main headlamps should be messed up if it were a problem there, but I don't know how sensitive these kits are to flucuations that your regular bulbs might not be.

I don't know. Mine and few others doesn't mean that they are bad kits. If you are going to base your opinion in buying this kit by posts on this board, then why did you buy a maxima? We all seem to bash something about the car and/or nissan in every other post so why buy it? It seems we are all supercritical, for instance very few people have had a perfect fit and install on the y-pipe but we all seem to buy them anyway!
I am still pleased that I bought the kit and I will buy from Hogan again if he has something I want/need.
As for the install, if it weren't for the supplied harness this kit would be a pain to install. I don't know if the harness is available for other kits but if anyone read the instructions, it said you have to drill a hole in your headlight housing. I'm sure other kits would require this as well, but since the harness is included this is not required. I found this to be very straight forward and easy to install!
Thanks Hogan and everyone else just gotta remember that yo its ok!
The kit itself is pretty well made. I think my problem stems from me not properly grounding the wires. My maxima doesn't have good grounding points, and most of the bolts as well as the frame of the car are painted and prolly not very good in conducting currents. Plus the existing ground wires that i tried to lay ontop of seem to be rusty and also not good conductors.
As for the design of this kit, my only qualm is that the relay harness doesn't have a plug that plugs directly into the stock lighting harness, but instead you have three wires that you need to stick into the individual slots of the harness and wrap in place with electrical tape.
Other than that, when the lights do come on it looks really GOOD. Tomorrow i'll work on it some more and hopefully get some positive results.

So are they working now??? You said that the grounds were bad so did you figure it out? I hope so.

Sorry about the problems, but its with all HID retrofit kits that problems will arise. The funny thing I've noticed is that the 9004 HIDs have more frequent problems than H4. The plug I worked on day and night to get the 9004 plug right, but it was such a pain making the prototype, and then the mold, and injecting the plastic and having it not fit on different plugs from different manufacturers. If the fit was too loose, then it would fall off. The 9004 Harness has been revised, MedicSonic got the first set of the new harnesses, and that simplified the install by 10 minutes~! The H4 will remain unchanged, since the plug was eZ to construct. I'll be working on a dedicated Maxima plug in the next few weeks for the 9004. Sorry about the problems guys, I'm trying to stay on top of every situation, and handling every problem one at a time.
Ice, I'm gonna re-ship your kit, apparently UPS' Collections Dept contacted me about insufficient funds, and will be shipping the kit back to me, but I'm in PA now, and I will send it out Next Day on Thursday afternoon.
John, your ballast is on the way, tracking # emailed.
Thai, blah, you and your 'professional' installs.
Thanks for your support guys. I'm about to dyno our new intake, and steps are being taken to introduce STILLEN to my brand of Boost.
JIC has been contacted, and we are about to become a US Importer for IMPUL Tuning in Japan for A32 VQ30DE components. Kei Office has been contacted with very little sucess. We might even get our own wheel~!~!~!~!
By X-Mas everything will be available so start saving.
Spring 02, Accurit Performance might possibly get an R32 Skyline for Autocrossing...So hang tight.
Screw the projectors, screw the one piece for the 4th Gen, they are a royal pain and $8000 in prototype molds later...I say die die die die....Same to STILLEN.

Sorry to email, PM, and post you, but I hope to reach you BEFORE you ship my HIDs on Thursday. Please check your email.
ispeed, Perhaps you can re-read my post, which merely mentioned issues right out of the box: I never said the kits were bad. I also never said I was using the board to form an opinion on this kit, or any kit for that matter, and I certainly never made a correlation between a HID kit and a Maxima.
An explanation of the issues was given, which is appreciated by all.

Well it was never ment as a flame or to start anything with you. Sorry if you took it that way.
I read your post and yes I understand that you feel like there are problems right out of the box with this kit. My point was there are a lot of problems right out of the box for a y-pipe, but most all of us would consider it a good mod.
As for not using this board to form an opinion about this kit, then how did you know it had problems right out of the box and felt the need to post it?
I took my explanation to far by correlating a HID kit to the maxima and I apologize about that. I am just trying to give people a proper explanation about this kit and what to expect. As far as I know, the only problems with this kit was my ballast and Adam's (who didn't get his from Hogan, but from his own group deal) bulbs. If anyone else has problems, I haven't read about it and I just may have missed their post. Now can you agree with me that 2 possibly 4 people's problems doesn't necessarily make this kit have "issues"?
My kit hasn't arrived yet
I ordered my kit from Hogan on Sat. via Paypal and requested (and PAID) for overnight delivery. They should have gotten here on Tuesday. It is now Wed. and they still haven't arrived.
I tried emailing Hogan, but have yet to receive a response. Based on everyones' experiences in dealing with Hogan, I hope that this is just a slight oversight or mishap.
Hogan, please contact me via email on the status of my kit. TIA.
Jim N.

Thank a comp virus, ended up replacing 2 motherboards, and a HD. Going after some jacka** who owes me 10K for mods done to his car, and best of all someone breaking into my Maxima and stealing the BOSE head unit, while I am in PA right now. Just found out 10 minutes ago.
Your funds are on the way.
