INSTALLING U.R PULLEY -What is that part I need?
#4
Is there detailed instructions on s/o's website on how 2 do this 4 the 5th gen? I'm going 2 get my mechanic 2 do it but it's not s/t he's ever done so I want 2 supply as much info as possible ... what tools does 1 need as well?

The part is the crank seal. From what I've been told you should replace it anytime you change the pulley. Although it probably doesn't matter if its a new car.
MORE IMPORTANT - Are either of you dynoing the change? I'd like to see a dyno of this change besides mine.
I'm re-dynoing today to see if I can figure out where that 13 hp supposedly went when I added the pulley (see dyno plot below). Real world testing shows it is still there and that the UDP's gains on the 5th gen are nominal at best.

JESUS is all I have to say.. I attempted this install myself today. I did not have the proper tools though. I jacked up my car. Took the wheel off, took the oil cover off, sprayed the pulley bolt with WD-40. I have a friend push in the break and stick it in 5th.... I attempt to take the bole off when.. grrr grrrr.. its not FU***** coming off!!!
the socket i was using was only 6 inches long.. very big reason why.... I'm not a small guy by any means either.. I
'm 6ft. 200lb. bench over 3 and squat over 4. I've lifted weights since I was 15. There was no way this bolt was coming off. I will have to take it to my buddies with an air wrench...

Deazal: Sorry to hear about the problems. Hopefully you can get it installed soon.

things have been nuts at work, and I hardly have any time to do the install.... I have to go into work this weekend also I have the RT Cat and UDP sitting in my trunk right now.... I may just take it to a shop if I don't have time
DeaZal: did you try the trick where you wedge a breaker bar and then blip the starter? The method is outlined in the sticky installation thread....

You can purchase a long, thick breaker bar which should do the trick. Here is another writeup, which is similiar to a 2K and 2K+: http://www.greghome.com/Greg's%20Garage/1999%20Nissan%20Maxima%20SE/Underdrive%20Pulley.htm

hmmm
Well from the looks of it.. I think I'm going to wait till my buddy gets home who has all the proper tools.. Air gun.. Torque wrench.. If that bolt is that hard to get off it is for a reason.. And i probably wont be able to tighten it to correct specs.. soo I wait

UDP Redyno'd
Ok. The saga continues - for those who care.
As you can see from the dyno in my sig - post-udp appears to have resulted in a loss of 13 hp to the wheels max plus an overall loss above 6k rpms.
I changed gas, disconnected ecu overnight and then raced madmax2k - he previously dyno'd almost identical to me with CAI/Y (see my run 5 on dyno). Race result showe no significant difference. Certainly, nothing to show the 13 hp loss on the dyno.
So, I went back to the dyno yesterday. Dyno gave exact same results as before (run 11 in the dyno below (i.e. 13hp loss)).
After the dyno, I did several pulls against another 5spd 2k without the udp but with exhaust mods and cali spec. On those pulls - all 3rd gear - I pulled on him just a bit at high rpm - over 6k. That seems to confirm that I did not lose the 13 hp the dyno says I did.
Conclusion: It is hot and humid down here in Florida, and all of the maxes are probably retarding timing at high rpms as a result. That explains why I'm running the same as before against them.
Also, I don't think the UDP does much on the 5th gen. The dyno showed no gain whatsoever below 5100 rpms.

One More thing
The unorthodox racing site does not list the weight of the 2000+ maxima UDP or the stock weight.
I suspect that the 5th gens stock pulley is lighter than the 4th gens. I am going to weigh my stock pulley - can someone here weigh the UDP before you put it on??
UR claims 2.7hp for every 1lb by which the rotating mass is lightened.

UR claims 2.7hp for every 1lb by which the rotating mass is lightened and by virtue of underdriving the accessories. I suspect this is like the header issue - the max is already pretty efficient here.

Hmmmmm
I don't get it?!?!? So i'm going to lose power?!?!?! I swore I saw other dyno sheets saying it was improved... And plety of people saying they can feel it and how much of a difference it made... I dunnoo.. what is up?!?!?

I think MaxGator's dyno is reading low because of the hot weather/humidity. It just doesn't make sense to lose so much hp because of the UDP. At worst, you should come out even, as was proven by the MaxGator's real world results.... anyhow, I am going to try and dyno before and after the UDP.... that should help clarify things some more perhaps...

results may take some time.... the guys at the shop said they are pretty busy this week... I will try and get it done next week..... no guarantees though.... I got a lot of stuff to do at work also but I will try my best...
MaxGator: I'll weigh the stock pulley when it is off the car
