I have 2000 miles on my 2001 MAX SE. I notice that when I step on the gas..I feel like a clunk.. Almost like something is moving from the front to the back. This has been happening ever since I bought the car at the end of May. So now I just step on the gas lightly to start moving and then it is fine..anybody else know what I am talking about.

Do you have a 5 speed or an automagic?

Have you checked the jack in the trunk to ensure it was in place and secure?

It could be the gas that you are using. you know wa if you use regular gas it makes that type of sound. Premium gas is what the cr needs to stop makng that sound. i dont know if thats they sound your hearing though

Same thing. Make sure it fits snugly.

It is an automatic... Its not so much that I hear something, but its like i feel something... Something feels like its moving from the front to back if that makes any sense. I checked the spare tire and the jack..everything was tight. I dont think it could be a transmission problem because the car only has 2000 miles and its been like that since i got it. Maybe its just my imagination..but I dont think it is.

I've felt it. I assume its the electonic mount stiffing.

its in the brochure...

the autos have an electronically controlled mount (the rear one I think). I think it's just stiffing up as you apply power and making you feel a slight clunk.

This may sound silly, but it could be an item in one of your door storage areas that moves back and forth with acceration. I heard the same thing for a week, and it turned out to be a pair of sunglasses!

Does it sound as if it is coming from your front wheels?

I had a similar clunking experience when braking and it was covered by a Tech Service Bulletin having to do with a bolt on the brakes.

I can't say I've experienced this one yet. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Yes it feels like its coming from the front, but not when I brake..only right when I accelerate. If I let off the brake, and start rolling then step on the gas slowly then harder its fine..but if I just take my foot off the brake and go right on the gas..kinda hard, this is when I FEEL this clunk..like something is moving from the front to back..its been doing it since i bought the car in may.
