I'll begin by saying I tried the "robust" search tool for these forums, and it failed to find any matches for anything I did, as usual.

Just by visiting this forum, I've been pressured by everyone who has a RSB into wanting one ("Try it, kid, you'll like it!"). I called a local performance shop for a quote on the Stillen RSB, and he talked to Stillen and they told him they don't carry a part number for the 2001 Maxima. I told the guy I knew 2001 Maxima owners that had the RSB and it fit, so he said I could order it but there might be some slight fitment issues.
I read Paul2KGXE's instructions weeks ago, and I read Russ2kSE's new instructions a couple of days ago. So, I went back and reviewed both and found differences.

Paul2KGXE's method:
  • 2000 Maxima GXE
  • Used 3rd and 5th holes
  • Trailing arm has cover over ABS wire
  • Brackets clamped over the ABS cover
Russ2kSE's method:
  • 2001 Maxima SE
  • Used 1st and 4th holes
  • Trailing arm doesn't have cover over ABS wire
  • ABS wire is held by a simpler metal stamping at two places, one of which interferes with the bracket location used by Paul
  • As a result, brackets were installed farther forward
Stillen's instructions:
  • Tells you about the ABS cover
  • Tells you to use 3rd and 5th holes
  • Picture shows 2nd and 4th holes used
The other holes are used for adjustment so I guess that can be overlooked.
I'm guessing the difference between 2000 and 2001 was found before, but why do rhe Stillen instructions apply to 96-2001 Maximas and I'm told that they don't carry a part for the 2001?
I'm going to order it anyway.

Comments, flames, and spam are welcome!

On my RSB, the 3rd and 5th holes were used like Stillen suggested. In order to make it fit, the bracket that has the tie to hold the ABS wire was banged flat so that the RSB could fit right over it. The RSB bracket holds the ABS wire nice and snug so you shouldn't have to worry about it. Have fun.

2000 and 2001 are DIFFERENT

The ABS line cover on the 2000 and 2001 are different. Still install the bar on the holes recommended (3 and 5), that does not change. What does change is what you do to the ABS cover to make the RSB fit. Your options are:

1. Remove the ABS line cover. Stillen said the blue braces will hold the lines.
2. Remove the abs line and cut the flange off the abs line cover to make the blue bracket fit
3. Remove the ABS line and bend the flange down on the abs line cover to make the blue bracket fit.
4. Get the ABS line holder from a 2000 and swap

I did option #3 as did mbcp_tdogg. I found that out after speaking with an Avalon install tech. He mentioned #2 as what they have been doing.

Hope this clears things up,

check out this old thread...
(Well there are old threads on this, but the search function sucks so bad I could't find any of them, it can't find 1 post I made)

Re: 2000 and 2001 are DIFFERENT

I did #3 for my 2001 (like theMax and mbcp_tdogg). No problems so far, just make sure you don't crimp the ABS wire when bolting on. Good luck.
