Through a complete accident (not daveb's fault), I only got sealant for one light and so I decided to make my car look dumb for a few days and have one of each on my car for comparison and I (and you) can decide which you like better. I did this so those of you with black cars or dark cars can decide whether you like this or not. It is for you to form your own opinion so please don't criticize me for mine or others for theirs. This is for your benefit to make an informed decision.

Here is a total back view of the car
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...062&p=53088795

Here is a view of just the new 02 light
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...062&p=53088798

Here is a view of just the old SE light
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...062&p=53088801

Here is an angled view (because sometimes that matters) of the entire back end
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...062&p=53088792

Good luck with whatever you do.

I hate to say it but i think the old se light looks much better. but thanks for showing all of us black max's the difference.

BTW, you go to mizzou? i noticed your plate holder. some of my really good friends are going there for their freshmen year right now. where are you from? in missouri or one of the rare out of staters?

interesting option.. imo the new tails go well with the clear rear sidemarkers. but like many parts of teh max, it's another thing that take time for me to apreciate

went to Mizzou - graduated in 95 (I'm old I know)! I am from St. Louis originally - so Mizzou was far enough from home to party hardy, but close enough for free laundry and food on weekends!!!

Thanks for your feedback. At this time, I'd say I'm 50/50 on whether or not I will keep the SE lights or the 02 lights.

I wish they came with a black housing though because when the trunk is open, the gray housing looks kind of dumb with the black car - oh, well.

My prediction is that more people will like the stock SE's better on a black car, but with my rear clears (as mingo pointed out) and the fact that I (my opinion) like the contrast, I might stay with the 02's - but I'm just not sure.

LOL. Some people are going to think you are strange driving around with different lights. You are driving a 2001.5 Hopefully you can get sealant for the other light soon. Anyway... the one you did looks good.

Thanks Paul, your lights look fantastic - I am still deciding which I like better. Check your PM's - I have one question for you.

Thanks for the feedback - I'm sure I'll get a few strange looks, but I don't really care. I just decided to take one for the team!!!

I vote original too, maybe they'll look better on a GXE or GLE.

The original SE tail lights look better. Something funky about the clear on the black. Anyone know if these '02 lights are going to be used on all Max's, or will the SE's have a different styling. All the pics I've seen of the SE's show the light just like this one, so I assume that for 02, Nissan is departing from the longstanding styling differentiation of tail light treatments for the SE from the GXE & GLE.

going w/ the consensus [i think thats the rite word], IMO stock looks better dawg....but i think the 02 lights would better on lighter colors, pearl white maybe? only thing holding me back is the orange tint on the indicator (lower 1/2) moon...cuz i want clears like stock so unless they make em clear, no change...

Thanks for posting the pics. One good thing about the 2k2 tails is that it does look very good with rear clears. I've stayed away from rear clears to keep the red consistant but with the clear tails, it would look good. Hmmm...I wonder if you take off the clear piece from the 2k1 and replace the amber piece in the 2k2?

Can you do this??

Anyone wanna volunteer to try? Cause I like the 02s with the clear lower half moon. MaximaZero "photochopped" it awhile back and it looked sweet. The photochopped pic was on a white car...if you guys wanted to know.

I like how the 02 stands out. I also like how the 00 blends in. So, my opinion is just leave it like this! I'm pretty sure it's the only Max with 00 and 02 taillights.

It would be an original - it will be like this until at least Monday night so I'll have a few days of mismatched lights.

Everyone - thanks for the feedback. It's pretty much what I expected, but I still am not 100% sure what I will do. I will install the other 02 light when the sealant comes in and then think about it for a few days.

Then if I keep the 02's, I will have some SE smoked lights for sale.

I like things that match, so I like the original black SE tails on my black max, but the new '02 tails might look sweeter on a silver max. Peace.

Im the same on this, i like the 2k2 without the amber lower. If you could remove and clear it it would look awesome.

I could have sworn I saw a pic of an '02 SE and it had the standard black tail light, but it also had the chrome ring around the taillight as well as the black surrounding..

It might have been a dream, however

Decent work with photoshop.

As for the 01's vs. the 02's, go with the 02's just because your Max will be unique compared to 99.999% of all maximas on the road. being different is cool (like chebosto's fat wing)

personally, I prefer the stock lights. I have a grey lustre car and the black background helps them blend in, like on your car.
Lets face it, these are ugly designs and the 02 version only makes them stand out more.
