Has anyone here has changed out the spark plugs on a 2000 or 2001 Maxima???? I just got my 2001 and looked to see how hard it was. Well the fronts look easy but the back ones I could not even see. Is this something you want to do yourself when the time comes or take it to the dealer for a simple spark plug change?????

2.) What type of gas to use on the 2001 maxima..fuel door says Unlead fuel only...Use premium for maximum performance...do you notice a diffrence by using Premium?????

1. The rear plugs are not that hard to get to with an extension, just be patient.

2. Spend a few more cents and use Premium, I believe the owners manual states to use Premium gasoline.

Unless you are having problems there should be no reason to touch the plugs and if you have to it's under warantee. People have talked about going one colder with not so good results.

You spent good money for a car and you want to skimp cents a gallon?

Going with cooler plugs is only for ppl running S/C or NOS, for NA cars it is not recomended.

Not clear on Gas USE.....

So whats the diffrence if I use Regular 87 octane opposed to using premium 93 octane...will I loose HP with the 87 octane???? What effect does using 87 octane have on the car???? Why does the gas lid say "premium fuel is recommended for maximum performance"????? Does this mean Premimum ONLY...or can regular be used but with less performance????? I'm confused.................

NOW HEAR THIS

To Merlin:
I'll be nice about this (since I'm relatively new), but others will kick your azz metaphorically. From my experience, you're on thin ice with a couple courtesy rules on the forums:

1. Please don't post the same thing twice (your question about the fuel octane ratings.)

2. Please look for answers to your questions first, before asking questions on the forums.

3. Please use 1 question mark at a time

I already answered your question on the other post about the fuel. As for the spark plugs: you have the best stock spark plugs on the MARKET. You have no reason to change these. For simple mods at affordable prices, consider the following:

Front Strut Tower Bar - Increases stiffness of your car's chassis and will give you much better handling.

Rear sway bar - reduced body roll, works well with the FSTB.

Hi-flow / cold air intake - colder air in your engine means more power. Want to know why? send me a private message and I'll explain it in terms of the chemistry of internal combustion engines.

Exhaust systems - More room for gases to escape from your engine = more power.

Also, a must for every 5th generation maxima owner:
www.custommaxima.com buy the clear front/rear bumper lights / side markers. What a difference.

If you want to spice up the lighting of your car, get the BULB NUMBERS from this forum (trust me, the bulb numbers are already posted) and go to a site like www.autofreak.net, where they sell lots of cool bulbs for your car.

Any other questions, remember to search the forums first before posting newbie questions.

Hope I could help, I know I'm a newbie too, but I hope this contributed for everyone's sake.

PS Merlin - cool screen name

Unless you want engine knocking and pinging or whatever they call it, stick with premium fuel nothing lower than 91 octane as teh manual recommends. Read the FAQ or FAQ-U on top of this forum and I think you will find the answer you are looking for. As far as the spark plugs Merlin was only asking if they are hard to take out for when it came time to change them. Also welcome to the board Merlin, watch out for the mod bug.

Melanthius- Thanks for posting the link. I have been wondering where to get bulbs for my set light and hopefully i'll find them here.
