I am considering buying my firs Maxima. I want a 2002 Max with 6 speed manual and limited slip differential. Since the limited slip won't be available until December, and the 2003 Max may be released 6 months later, should I wait for the 2003 or buy the 2002? What do you all think? If Nissan is moving the Max upscale, I'm worried that the 2003 will be pushed even higher in price than the 2002.

Anyone else trying to make this decision?

Of the two choices, I would wiat for 2003, BUT that is contingent on you liking the style at the time. I would not bother with 2002 at this time. Either hang in there for a potentially larger and more expensive car in 2003

or

here's a thought...find a good 2001 you like and save the cash for an S/C or other mod's.

You have to be careful, or you will end up in a neverending circle. If you wait for the 2002, the LSD is delayed. The 2003 is coming out 6 months later. If you wait for the 2003, XYZ may be delayed, and then the 2004 is available 6 months later. The next thing you know, you're going through the same thing with the 2005s.

My advice, make a decision, stick with it and don't look back. Any of these chioces is good in my opinion. The biggest problem is that there are too many unknowns for the 2003.

Personally, I would look at getting a 2k1 at a great price (there are plenty left and they are going cheap) and if you want more performance, let the mod bug bite you.

I agree. Actually, with the 3.5 VQ being a change in the 2k2, that is an unknown as well IMO.

It's a great deal! I say let the mod bugs bite.

2002 or 2003

I am actually trying to make that decision as well. I figure by the time the 6 speed LSD comes out in December and hoopla dies down 3 - 6 months later, at least some information will be out about the 2003. Typically Nissan seems to do introductions at the New York Auto Show which is early in the year. (Especially if they plan on the 2003 being available by mid year.) In view of that, I figure I should be able to get a decent idea of what the 2003 will be about while there are still some 6 speeds floating around so I'm not out of luck in case I don't like what I see. Also, if these assumptions pan out, when the introduction of the 2003 comes, there should be at least a general expectation regarding a price range. Just my .02.
