17" Tire Size?

I'm getting ready to replace the pathetic Bridesone RE92s on my Maxima. The recent downpours of rain here in the Pacific Northwest have made the roads quite slippery for the stock tires.
My question is: Will a 245/45-17 tire fit without rubbing on anything. If this size works I will probably also get some new 17" x 8" rims. The Tire Rack says the largest tire that will fit without rubbing is a 235/45-17. Anyone tried the 245s?
Will the 235s fit on my stock 17" x 7" rims?
I'm considering the Yokohama Db ($144 in the 235 and 245), Dunlop SP5000 ($129 for the 235 and $134 for the 245), and the Goodyear HP Ultra Plus ($113 for 235 and $145 for the 245). Any comments on these tires?
Prices are from The Tire Racks latest add.
Thanks.

Bottom line, if you can swing the extra bucks for 8" rims and 245/45 (closer to stock diameter than the 235/45s), then go for it. This has it's drawbacks though...heavier rims (usually) and increased rolloing resistance due to the larger contact patch (this could slow you up a little)
In the 225/50 the choices are few and far between. BTW, the Yoko db's are great tires. My upgrade will be 235/45 Yokos or Kuhmos on my standard 7" rims.

The consensus is that it's possible, but you're taking your safety in your own hands. If the tire fails because it's too wide for the rim, the manufacturer will not do anything about it. The maximum recommended tire width for a 7" rim is 225. What you do with your own car is your business, but don't expect the manufacturer to be held responsible if the width causes any problems.

I'm trying to stay within the mfg. spec for tire vs rim width. Also, I don't care for the look of a tire that is squeezed onto an undersized rim.
Anyone interested in purchasing some stock 17" rims? :-) I just found a cheaper price on the dunlps at Discount Tire ($120 for 235s and $131 for 245s).

But I know for a fact that a the 245/45/17 will fit because I had them on my Millenia S and swapped the rims for a week and they did not rub at all.
Dixit.
