My friend has a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited (Stock). I drive a 2K GXE with K&N and OSCAI. Is it possible that I can beat him in the quarter?

 

If it's the Inline-6 you should be able to take him without a problem. The newer 4.7L V8's are pretty quick though - they'll run mid-15's stock. If you've got an automagic and he's got a V8 then be careful. But if you're stick then you should be able to smoke either one without a problem...

 

Jeeps are really fast especially those V8 jeeps...they are monsters!

I've raced a jeep cherokee with my automatic GXE.
Let me tell ya, off the line, those things can move. When I raced it, he be me off the line by a car link till 30, but then I started to get into my powerband and pulled on him like he was a stump till 50. Then I shut it down cause speed limit is 45 and I don't wanna get a ticket. (But I'm not sure if it was a inline 6 or 4.7 liter V8. I immagine it was a V8 cause the one I raced pulled visciously off the line. But since they're geared for the low-end, It was no match for a car who is dominate in the top-end.

 

I have spanked many cars when I drove (drive) the '98 Jeep. It's the 5.2L V8 only with intake and cat-back. Also, between 35 - 65 pull on passing is whoa !! see stats below, if I(we) keep it headers may be next.

I plan to race my Max against the Jeep, I know how fast the Jeep is so ...

 

If you do not launch well he will beat you. Those things are fast not to mention the fact he will pull away immediately.

 

Maxima can take the V8 jeep. I've done it. It is close... but if you get a halfway decent launch you should get him. Max will pull away at 60. ...and yes I have automagic.

 

I used to have the 4.0L V6 Jeep Grand Cherokee... that thing was a torque monster, but with the Jeep I think you can win because I believe the Maxima makes it's torque at higher RPM, and the Jeep redlines at about 5200 RPM, so you should be able to use your gearbox to your advantage even if you have auto. And try not to peel out on startup, ouch.

 

My jeep isn't stock. The bone stock one's have a 0-60 ~ 8.0s. the torque curve on the 5.2 is pretty flat for a Ameri. V8. It pulls hard all the way to 120mph. I will race it early one morning.

I love my Max (3rd One), so whether I can beat it or not I still will not feel bad . That's half the reason I haven't modded my Max yet! If I just want to beat people I can jump in the Jeep, get perfect lauches every time, and the odds are pretty high that I will win.
