Cuz i upgraded the sound system...a whole lot. since it gets played withoutt the car runing you gotta have reserve power.
pros good reserve
cons they tend to swell

these things last like the life of your car... no matter how much power you use, it'll still be there. so its like, change it once and not have to worry about it again.

The crappy one I get from Nissan has 6 plastic screw thingies on top. Once in a while, you'll have to open them and check the fluid level. If it's too low, you add a bit of water.

I bought my car, and then went on vacation for two weeks while they were preping the car and whatnot. When I came back, I picked up the car and drove it home. It was fine then, but after sitting 2 hours in the garage, I started it up again and my battery was dead. They brought one to my house, but I thought...geez, what a crappy battery.

optima's range from about 100 -350. I say if you have a sound system get an all in one battery though.

the deal with optima batteries besides their maintenance free and longevity...is that the yellow...blue..and orange(i've heard they have a orange one)...they are considered "Deep cycle" meaning that they can be completely drained and recharged..over and over againg without damadging the battery and electrolytes inside. The red optima battery carries a longer charge...is sealed..zero maintenance...but is not deep cycle. So unless your running a killer sound system (1500+ watts) and you sit in a parking lot with it full blast..you should grab a red one...look on E-bay, where the prices are really great...and since its a sealed battery..no worries about it being shipped.

They do make an orange top. The local stereo shop near me sells them. Check with your local stereo shop...maybe they can give you more info.

resistant to vibration...are they saying like a rice rocket w/stiff suspension will have a battery die quicker than normal?

Also, my gf left the lights on to her Altima the other day. Come back 6hrs later and battery's dead. Had to jump start it and now it's fine (had to put some water in it).
Would an optima have prevented this?

An optima yellow top has a reserve of an 1 and 30 min so you can play the stereo and run the lights for an 1hr 30 min before it would die. You would still have to jump it once it's out of energy but you would not have to do anything else. Ie the water thing. Just let it run and it will recharge.
Keep in mind optima makes good battery's but there not the only one's or the best. There is no best theres alot of deep cycle and dry cell batterys out there that are very good.

optima batteries

There seems to be a fault that we noticed at work, where we use alot of red top Optimas in the power carts and ground equipment out on the flight line (I'm in the military) They seem to have a high failure rate if you allow them to sit in a discharged state for an extended period. They also seem to need a lot of amps occassionaly to wake up,(when they do) sometimes as much as (50a for 15 min). We do seem to be throwing alot more of them away tho- but we don't mind- their in the stock system-

This is Optima's response to my question about an orangetop battery.

"The orangetop is the reverse terminal battery version of the redtop...this is the one to fit in the Maxima with our Group 24 adapter.

Thank you for your support and interest in Optima Batteries. Best Regards, David L. Willman Government and Military Sales Rep. Customer Relations 303-340-7486 direct phone 303-344-9905 direct fax 720-299-1797 cell phone "
