Hmm, you seeme confused, or atleast I am by your post.
The 3" Pulley you are refuring to that Kev has is a 3.25 diam. pulley. This pulley is used with a SC, it is was drives the fan in side of the SC. The smaller the size of that pulley the faster the fan spins in the SC which in return increases the PSI. There is only one company that makes a pulley for the Vortech SC and it is Vortech. Now for question about a pulley melting, it is the palstic idler pulley that is used in conjuction with a SC.

Now for the UDP, this is a replacement for the Crank pulley{which drives your belts}, only one company maked it for 95-01 maxima{maybe 02 too?}, the company is called "UR" which ='s Unorthodox Racing. This pulley is ligher then the oem pulley and smaller. The advatages of a smaller/lighter crank pulley is less unsprung weight, this peice slows down your belts and in return frees up more HP which whould typically be losed in drive trane loss. I just finished installing mine a few hours ago and the car does feel a bit more spunky{AKA fast}. Let me know if you want to know more becuase I know all about this stuff!

I paid $200 for my UDP and belts. It is the best deal I have ever seen so far{in 2 years}. Contact Coz at UltimateZ 1-630-837-0700 and tell him you want a UDP and belts for $200. For installation info go to www.maximadriver.com and click How2 and there are descent directions there.

The only gripe I have with the info there is they don't really tell you how to get your OEM pulley off. It sais to use air tools but I do not have them and I am not the type to pay a mechanic. The only thing that worked for me was to put a 19mm socket on the bolt and connect a 1/2 inch driver and then smash the wrench with all my might about 15 times with a 2ft steel bar! It worked...

You might want to try courtesy - at least you'll get the right belts.

If you haven't done intake and ypipe, you ought to do those first. The benefit of the UDP is still up in the air on a 5th gen. The others are a much better bang for the buck.

Unless you have mechanical experience and the right tools, be wary of doing it yourself. There is another thread that is kind of a how-to/horror story - pretty recent.

Just don't try to search for it using udp because the search engine won't return any results for a three letter word.

The UDP is a strange install without air tools. You have to be careful with all the tensioners and the pulley bolt is not an easy one to remove. I got mine done at a shop also. I also got my UDP from Coz at UltimateZ. There was some confusion with belt sizing, but Coz did take care of it by refunding us the cost of the belts if we shipped them back to him. Yo_its_ok is running a group deal on the UDP right now. Check the GD forum.

Installing your mods is the best part! While it's not much while your doing it the end result is much more satisfying IMO.

I know.... i would have done it myself, but I didn't want to break a tensioner or something.... Its like the only thing I didn't install myself so far....
