I am thinking about buying a new Maxima and was wondering about the navi system that is available. What all does it do and is it worth the $2000?? Has anyone had good/bad experiences with it? Also, just let me know some things about your Maxima you like so I can get a better idea of what they are like. Thanks so much!!

if you get lost all the time for me you'll soon forget about having spent over 2k for a good navi unit.. if you use it as frequently as i do, then it's worth it. if not then it's a fun toy to have.. but i have yet to see a good navigation unit that comes with the car.. i have the alpine nve-n851a dvd rom navigation, it's a litte faster than some of the other navigation units out there in terms of mapping out your route, and route recalibration. kenwood now also makes a dvd rom navigation unit, i haven't seen it yet, but it's something worth looking into.. imo, go to as many stores as it will take for you to find demos of all those units and see which one you like best. a few have used their laptops as navigation and are pleased with the results.. they say its' alot more precise and more detailed, but i'm fine with mine, i dont' have a lap top, and i wanted an in car navigation thing, instead of having to move parts in and out of the car, having to hook something up everytime.
the factory navigation for nissan is so so. the display is somewhat uique because it uses the birds eye of view display instead of tradtitional gps systems.. i have only played with it once at an infiniti dealership on the i30 and it was "decent" but does not meet my standards.. the unit is alot more uniform because it is built into the car, that's the only reason why i would choose to get a factory navigation, but in terms of quality and precision, i'de consider the aftermarket.

btw. welcome to our board

Agree with Mingo' it's a slick system, but it is only so so as a gps system. It,s the new wave for automobiles. (e.i. BMW and Lexus) if you like the looks and the snob factor, buy it. If you wait, the stuff that is going to come out in the next 3 to 5 years will just blow your mind.
DVD,PC COMP., HOMELINK, ECU PROGRAMABLE? Autos are just starting to touch what PC's were doing 10-5? years ago.
