paint chips

None here! I have the 2000 I30 and have been using Zaino from day one. Have the Silver paint. I wonder if the paint job on the I30 is somehow different than the Max, or is it the Zaino?????

Comments?

I don't think the Zaino will help. I think Russ told me that he had a couple of small chips on his bumper a long time ago.

I've got 4,000 miles and only 2 small ones on the nose. Icelandic Pearl paint. I do use a bra about 60% of the time. Mostly longer highway trips.

MAJOR CHIPS on my 2k1 Max with 29K on it. HATE the paint job and think it is the worst I have seen on any priced car. The paint on my Taurus with 42k on it looks like new in comparison to the Max. Keep in mind I do drive a black car so I see everything on it.

had my car about a year now at 7K miles just a 2 small chips on the hood. You cant see any chips on the bunper but you can feel them when you wax. (only chipped the clear coat). I do mostly city driving.

Hehe...chip or even little dents on the bumper are a given. I have plenty there...But so far, there are 4 chips on the hood. 1 huge one...where you can actually see the rock or whatever did it dug into the material underneath the pain. This is after abut 9k of mostly highway driving.

2001 Black SE with 5K miles and (knock on wood.....) NO CHIPS. (Thank you god)

I never heard of Zaino before coming to the org, but I use Liquid Luster wax. It is a pink wax that can only be sold if it is demonstarted first. They used to sell it in stores but for the last 3 years, they don't. I pick up 2 big bottles every year at the car show in the Jacob Javits Center in NYC. It is the best wax I have evr used or ever seen.

Knockin on wood too

15k miles, city/freeway driving for about one year now. We have some chips on the rear bumper when we hit an unexpectedly high curb. Our '85 Capri's bumper paint held up better when we backed into a pole. But pretty much we have a couple minor chips around the grille/bumper. Nothing to worry about...yet.

There is a Pic

Is there anyone not suffering from paint chips?

Lebats has posted a famous pic on the thread "longer splashguards available" that will curl your hair. He's from Upstate NY and after one year and one upstate winter the sides of his car were DECIMATED. He went for a whole warranty paint job and got denied. If you live anywhere where there's salt or sand on the road, IT WILL HAPPEN AND BADLY !! There are many guys here from Canada that have posted here and they will attest to this also, but the canadian guys seem to have better luck with getting their repaints. Maybe I should move more north-

I have a few small nicks in the hood. and I'm a total freak about giving 3-4+ car lengths at all times. Nothing makes me more angry than someone trying to go around and get in that gap either. I get pretty pi$$y about it

So, I'm alittle suprised I have the nicks I do, but certainly that is not my main concern.

This my main concern at the moment... The clear coat seems to be allergic to the paint.. 3 MONTHS AND STILL CANT GET NISSAN OUT TO INSPECT IT! (this is claim #2 for paint btw, the first was scratches UNDER the clear, all over the car)

2000 SE .. black paint.. a good number of small chips on the hood.

I also have noticed the paint on the rear bumper is starting to fade and show signs of major wear. I'm going to try putting a bunch of coats of wax on there.. who knows. I am in an apartment building so I end up having to have the local scratch em up car wash take care of dirt for me. (no hose avail here.. and my lease forbids any car work on premesis.. go figure)

Not since having the front end repainted....

but I had several prior to that. And, I used the bra most of the time. The worse chip I received was 10 minutes after taking the car off the dealer's lot. Truck through a rock right at the hood. Boy did that suck.

I had my front end repainted due to a car throwing a metal rod at me on the highway at 75 miles an hour. There was no way to avoid it so I just let it hit the front bumper and hood. I must say the new paint is holding up much better than Nissan's factory paint job. I don't even put the bra on now and haven't noticed a chip yet.

After a cement truck dropped a lot of rocks in my path on the freeway and scarred up the front of my car (200 or so nicks and paint chips), I had the car repainted at the local Nissan dealership. It seems the dealer body shops use the same cheap paint as the factory, because I already have a few nicks in the new paint. And I mean nicks that go clear through to the metal of the bumper. They even said they used flex agent on the bumper.

You want pictures???

You want to see pictures of badly damaged paint.
Look at the one attached. I will send more by e-mail if you wish. This is my 2001 Gray Lustre (?) Max after 9800 miles/6 months. I do not have a lot of chips on the hood, since I drive on county roads in upstate NY, without a lot of traffic. But we do have sand in the winter, and I bought my car in October. The body shop does not want to repaint my car without me buying longer splashguards.

The Maxima is a great car, but the paint sucks. Here's a picture of my car after a cement truck dropped some rocks 100 ft in front of me going 50MPH. On any other car, maybe the clear coat gets scratched up. On a Nissan, you get to see what is under the coat of paint, just like at the factory!
