This is mostly related to Canadian owners: how do you buy parts from US sellers and keep extra fees at acceptable level? I've recently got Porterfield pads and was charged 52 CAD for shippng, GST, PST , brokerage fee and couple other fees I don't recall right now by UPS ground. I don't mind to pay first two (SH + GST) but the rest was outrageous and increased the pad's price more than 50%. Are there more reasonable alternatives? I live in Toronto and don't have anybody in US to resend my order by US mail.

Have them ship it by US post rather than UPS. US post/Can post does not charge for brokerage crap. Also if you want to lose the PST have them ship it to a company rather than an individual. ie.

Acme, Inc.

Phatguy ... has that worked 4 u b4?

It should technically only work if you provide them with a valid PST # in advance.

Max ... what Phatguy said about USPS is true ... they are much much much cheaper ... their brokerage fee is only $5 CDN as opposed to the outrageous amounts all other courier companies charge. Use USPS!

Now, what I am about 2 provide you with is only theoretical. I make no claims to the effectiveness of this theory .. nor do I endorse or espouse it as it is tax fraud against the CCRA.

USPS shipping theories ...

Technically you can ask the shipper to declare a value of $15 USD or less ... they will not

Other Courier company theories ..

The above theory may also apply .. I know it applies if USPS is used.

Ask the shipper to declare the items as warranty returns. That means you were the seller & he's returning it to you for fixing. That's if the parts are used.

If new, ask the shipper to declare the items as Warranty Replacements ... this means .. u bought ... it was broke .. they replaced it 4 free ...

again .. these are theories ...

Please do not attribute these methods back to me under any circumstances ... they are my theories ... if they work ... ok .. if not .. ok ... either way .. it is tax fraud.

Hey ohboiya, you know all the tricks. Typically when a product is shipped to Canada from the state, US company cant charge you GST or PST ( cuz it is a cdn taxes ), this is actually the custom brooker or the transport company if it act as a brooker that will charge you taxes, what you stated will defenitely works if you dont exagerate like if the reel value is 10000$ and you declare that it is around 10.00$ they will be suspicious, I import a lot of stuff from the state and always use my company not to say that I saved a tons of money.

cheers

Man you are going to have some heft shipping bills once this is all done! Hopefully some of the tips in this thread will help you save!

Ohboiya: Having the Company name works everytime. Again only a "theory".
