They do look sort of like touring tires. But I dont see a problem with W or Y speed ratings. I got a W rating on my Kumho Supra Tire. They say the W is mainly due to the reason of it having a CHANNEL in the middle

Mainly from the tread pattern. Most RACING style tires have a aggressive tread pattern. Sort of all going the same way like the Kumho, Michelin Pilots, Nittos....

you guys confusing me, ok. so any tire you basically buy at tirerack are either touring or racing, and both perform just about the same with minor tread pattern differences... correct? and all tires you buy at tire.com dont offer enough for the track... correct?

touring tires will give you more mileage per tire since they are firmer rubber...
racing tires will give you little bit more grip since they are softer but you're paying for it at the end....

W and Y rating

Just wanted to give you guys a heads up on the W and Y ratings. W and Y are actually rated for higher speeds than Z. When the tire ratings people came up with Z back in the olden days, they figured there wouldn't be a need for anything higher than 149. Hence Z' 149+ mph rating. But, of course, high performance cars of today can go far beyond 149mph. So they added W and Y. W is rated for 168mph, and y is rated for 186mph.

Read this if you don't believe me:

I don't go to the track. I do mostly highway driving, commuting 104 miles per day. With a 400 wear rating, even though expensive, this looks like a good tire for me!
