I've had my max for about 3 months now and I noticed that just about everytime I fill my car up, I have dirt and sand inside the panel around the gas cap. Of course I notice it more after it has rained, but I am wondering if something is missing or if anyone else in here has noticed the same thing. I am pretty sure that the cap would keep it out of the tank, but still its not real comforting. Thanks for any info.

All the 2001 model maximas cars don't have a plastic thing protecting the fuel lines and covering the gas compartment...you should go to the dealer and they'll install it for free

Is there a TSB? There was quite alot of discussion on this a while back. People were buying the parts themselves.

My dealer said he knew nothing of the problem and can't do anything unless there is a TSB.

The first time I called the dealer about this problem they said they wouldn't do anything about it because missing parts are not covered under warrenty. Then I went in because of a oil change and mentioned the part. There attitude changed very quicky. They said that they would replace it for free. I guess they actually care about customer satisfaction. The only problem was that they had to order the part. This was a Rosental Nissan in Tysons Corner, Va.
