well, the only way to reset the ECU on the 5th gen is to unplug the battery for an extended period of time. No reset screw like there was on the 4th gen

An overnight power-down works for a 'reset', but its not the only way. An OBD-II (That's On Board Diagnostic - II) Scanner, also called a Scan Tool, can reset the ECU AND tell you which code(s) has tripped -- plus give you some basic engine data read-outs to boot. Generic OBD-II scan tools work on the Max. (and any post-1996 auto sold in the U.S.) for codes & the basic data, but cannot do everything the Nissan Dealer's Consult-II scanner does. A generic OBD-II Scan Tool runs a s low as $300 or so, and there are software/cable packages sold to adapt laptop computers to the task for less. Ask around -- Shops (and not just the dealer) that do diagnostic work have them and as do some of us DIY types. It takes less than five minutes to pull the code(s), the engine data, and reset the ECU. If the light comes back, you have a starting point to troubleshoot your baby.

I didn't get the Check Engine Light come on. Well, the first thing they say is to unplug the battery. Then disconnect the mass air flow sensor cable. They didn't say anything about disconnecting the temp sensor up front where the air scoop is. And not to start the engine WITHOUT the mass air flow sensor cable plugged back in.
Once I get it, I'll let you guys how it works out.
