I tried a 9-5 SAAB...
Hey guys, one of my friends lend me a 9-5 SAAB Turbo for a couple of days last week. After driving it 3 days, here is my impression: The car as a lot of power, it look like it has a bit more torque than my Max, anyhow I'm not to shure it might be just a feeling, I didn't like the handling so much, I was pulling the pedal to the metal and found that the steering wheel is trying to skip, if you dont grip the steering wheel correctly when accelerating it will probably be welcome in the crop field. The interior is confortable but I dont really like the design, if not familiar with button you are going to sware a bit, ( swedish car = Ikea ) for the price this car is sold you can nearly buy 2 max.
It was fun and free, anybody here raced agains one ?
I'd be curious to see what kind of match we can get.
Cheers

My father has a 97 Saab 9000 Aero 5 speed. I has a 2.3 4 cylinder turbo with 225hp and 252 lb-ft or tq. He can stll woop my maxima een with all my mods. Don't mess with saab turbo's, they will give us a real *** ripping. (except those of you with SC's)

Yep, saab made it a standard feature on all saab's in 2000. The smallest engine you can get in any saab is a 2.3 liter "light pressure" turbo that still kicks ou 185hp and 197 lb ft tq. Saab's are freaks.

on the subject of Saabs...
On the highway today, I was in the left lane crusing. This middle aged guy in his Saab 93 was in the lane next to me maybe a car length or so back. We came up on some traffic in his lane while my lane was open. I heard the guy punch it to try and get in front of me and cut me off. As soon as I heard it, I punched it also. I ended up pulling on him pretty well... He looked ****ed afterwards and he was tailing me through traffic until I had to take my exit...

Figure a NA car will loose 3% horsepower per 1000ft elevation. The modern turbo cars don't loose much horsepower till around 8000ft or so. They are programed to increase boost as the atmospheric pressure goes down, try that with a NA car.

c'mon guys you cant compare Maxima to Saab, these are different cars. 40g's puts you in a different kind of a car. Y'all can even start comparing to Porsche.
I didn't hear any battles against Millenia S, Solara V6 5 spd, Taurus SHO, Dodge Intrepid 3.5 and your dad's Oldsmobile...

The base model 9-5 is as mentioned 1 with 185 (or 75, i forget), then there is the 3.0 asmetrically turbo charged v-6, which if more of the loaded luxury model, then there is the Aero, which has a 2.3l turbo inline 4 producing 230 hp, (the 2002's will have 250) which has a 0-60 in the mid six second range. The saabs have more top end torque then the maxima (not including highly , modified ones) and will keep pulling past the 80 mph range harder than the maximas. Plus the suspension feels a little better (i own 2 saabs and a maxima) and there are quite a few saab tuning companies... i'll list some...

Re: Re: I tried a 9-5 SAAB...
Just a few minor corrections. ;-)
There are many engines available. For example, in '00, there was a base 9-3 with a 185hp 2.0t, a 9-3SE with a 200hp 2.0t, the Viggen with the 230hp 2.3t, the 9-5 with a light-pressure version of the 2.3t, the 9-5 with a 200hp 3.0V6 with asymmetrical turbocharging, and the 9-5 Aero with the 230hp 2.3t from the Viggen.
Pretty much any Saab, except the 9-5 2.3 with light pressure turbo, would stomp all over a Maxima. I personally witnessed (was in the car) a friend with an '86 900 SPG absolutely whip a turbocharged Eclipse, and that's no lie. (SPG = Special Performance Group, very rare, sort of like Saab's version of Audi's S4. They imported only 7000-something of them in six years of production)

I want to see the look on your face when it comes to any type of service, plus SAAB is great only in a past few years..otherwise it is one ugly overpriced piece of metal.

everyone has the right to do his thing..but this is a maxima forum...and I think most of us can't afford to spend $40,000 on a car. It doesnt make any sense to argue any more, you've made your choice and we made ours. So lets respect one another and not argue who is fool for paying $20K or $40K to get from point A to point B, since some people struggle to buy a beatup Metro.

On another note, I got my @$$ handed to me in my modded SHO by a 2.3 Aero. I agree those new rims are nice too. The new Saabs are looking nice!!

Almost every mag complains about Saab's wacky torque steer in their FWDs. At least put a limit slip differential in there. Nissan is bucking up and putting a nice helical lsd in the new maximas and have viscous units in Nissans in maximas since 1992.

I sat in a SAAB at the Autoshow and I did not want to get out!!
The seats are soo damn comfortable! I think they must make the most comfortable seats in the World. The leather is so soft and supple and the seats are so comfortable, as if its custom made for me.
I'm telling you SAAB should go in the couch business, they could sell their sofas thru IKEA..you know it would work out perfectly!
I have no clue as to its performance since I never drove one.
But I figure if its good enough for Jerry Seinfeld its good enough for me. =)
