GPS etc...

I'd like to get GPS for my MAX. I don't think there's a factory option. Advice on where to go for one? Prices? Also where to put it in the car? Above the shifter?

Also tinting. Any good nationwide chains or places to stay away from? Would a dealership be good? I live in Columbus, Ohio. Also anyone know of any websites with pics of the different types of tints?

Thanks for the help!!

you could probably retrofit a 2k2 gps unit with the new slimmer head unit in place of yours. climate controls may have changed dimensions too. don't know.

Good luck retro'ing the 2k2 into the Max. From the looks of it (From pictures), it looks like not only will you need to buy the display unit, DVDs, etc., but the climate control is built into the display now. You'll need to pretty much re-design the dash!

Another alternative is portable GPS. While it is nice and convienent to have it built in, wouldn't it be nice to take from car to car? (Even if you only have one car but do a road trip with someone else. . .) Check out www.delorme.com - I have a GPS from them which I hookup to my laptop (Yes, need a laptop, but does work with Palm devices.)

Works great, never get lost anymore. And I just pack it up and go.

get a garmin eMap or StreetPilot.. they are much more accurate then the Delorme units. (I have both, eMap and Earthmate) the Garmins can still feed a laptop mapping program if needed, but you rarely need that with the street level detail.

Tell me more about this. I have the Earthmate and I love, but I wonder what I'm missing out on. . .

the Earthmate is a great value. Since SA was turned off last year, its actually fairly accurate (although with war looming SA will probably come back). aside from the garmins having a display and no need for a laptop, they aquire in about 1/3 of the time, update at a higher frequency and tend to track better. they also over external antennas for even better reception if needed.

but.. if your delorme is working well for you (depending on the environment - like mountains or tall buildings) and you dont mind the cords and laptop having to be out, then dont worry about needing a better unit just for car nav.

Magellan GPS 315

I did a road trip this weekend with a friend of mine and I got a chance to use his Magellan GPS 315 and I was pretty impressed. He paid $90 and it has TONS of information including your current speed in MPH. I verified the speed with my new OBD-II program and it was within a couple tenths of a MPH. Not bad!

The GPS 315 works alone, but also links to a labtop. I didn't like the Street Maps software too much though. It was not user friendly when you tried to enter in start/finish locations and the map jumps around too much when your trying to zoom in/out. Other than that, I'm thinking of buying one for myself.
