Adding another sub to our Bose system

Can we add another sub to our exisiting Bose system without getting another amp? I am willing to disconnect the current sub but would like to have the stock sub and small box. Anyone who has added another amp where did you end up mounting it?

No. All the speakers in our car are 1 ohm. Unless you find a 1 ohm sub,the answer is no. Here is a cool idea. Get the 5 channel MTX amp(it is compatable w/ stock headunits and speakers), get the bose amp bypass and get you an 8in or 10in sub in a box in your trunk and change the sub in the rear deck to a first aid box!

Yes you can. Go here: http://www.5thgenmaximas.com/faq.htm#Audio

That will give you a idea on how to hook it up to our Bose. I will soon be doing this as well when I can get a new amp.

So you added an optimus (radio shack brand) amp, a pyramid crossover, and jbl subs and we are the ones who know nothin about car audio?? There are many ways to do the install. your way may have worked for you... The way i did it was actually test each wire to see what is really going on and i tapped into the rear speakers and crossed them over.. But who cares, im ripping my whole bose out soon, its garbage...

That was over 4 years ago when I did that. I have since installed over 2000watt stereos in my cars since. I haven't had the funds to mess with the max, but I saved the subs and the box. My way is the proper way on doing it, and many people have had success doing it.

Re: Re: Adding another sub to our Bose system

Well sir, I have you know I custom designed stereo installs for over two years while I worked at a stereo shop some years back. Secondly, he asked 2 questions, that is right, 2 questions. His first questions was, "Can you add another sub w/o adding another amp?" That is the question, I responded to first! I then proceeded to give a solution to his second question. I do suppose that when you were in school, you didn't fair to well on the reading for content section in English? By the way, nice stereo setup!

The MTX amp is not your only option although don't expect to buy a quality 5-channel amp for peanuts. With amplifiers you generally get what you pay for and you really want low distortion. What you should look for if you want to take the advice of the above post is any amp that will accept speaker level inputs. This means that the amp will accept plain old speaker wires to receive its signal in addition to standard RCA jacks which is the standard way of connecting aftermarket automotive audio components.

Peace
