Chrome caliper instead of painting ?

Hey guys, does anyone have had their caliper chromed instead of painting it, after doing my front brakes during the week-end, I was tempted to paint the caliper but I though that getting those chrome would be kind of cool. I know it is not going to cost the same price but I think it will be very cool, anyone had done this before and how much did it cost you to have the caliper chromed.

cheers

I don't think the chrome holds up too well against that particular combination of heat and brakedust. Besides, no one makes decent chrome anymore. You'd be polishing rust specks all day long.

Polish them out like mt 91 300ZXTT Aluminum Calipers, they aren't on my car, but sit on desk at home.
You can always clean the metal with a wire wheel, and it'll come out nice and shiny for about a week, then brake dust and water will make it ugly again.

How chrome process can weaken the metal ? cuz it is an electrochemical coating process, is it cuz of extreme heat during chrome process ? I never though of this one honestly, I actually though it would stiffen not weaken. ( we learn every day eh )

I remember long time ago when I was custom painting my friend harley, I was told by someone to look for 3 layers coating chrome process, I think I was copper, nickel and ? euh, forgot, damn memories.

cheers

Thanks buddy, so I guess I will paint those caliper after winter, I think I will removed those and sand blast them before painting it, I was thinking that purple will look great on my sterling mist max.

P.S: When I'll be ready, I will give you a call for my S/C set-up and tranny works it is something I want to do with someone that already did it and know what to do. I believe your in th NYC area right ? that will give me a good reason to spend a week in NYC, assuming that we can make the set-up in a week if everything is well prepared.

Thanks again for your input.

Ming aka MAC chromed out his intake manifold and it going to chrome out his valve cover. I know your intake manifold is plastic, but i dont know why you couldn't chrome your valve cover.

While we're on the topic of chrome .....

Does the rusting/chipping hold true for rims too? I'm familiar with the electorplating process from chem class, but how durable is the process and how thick is the chrome on modern rims? Expecially here in the northeast with all the salt and sand on our roads during winter. Will I expect to see visible aberrations on the rims within year? two?

Plastic can be chromed. There is a "chrome look" process applied to plastics. It looks real, for the most part.
