Bad news about Clock Splicing

Ok, dont make fun me but i totally messed up my splicing job yesterday with my clock (for my Alarm Scanner). I worked on it for like 2hrs total. I used wire taps and did everything I thought was right. Spliced it together nicely, I even triple checked after it didnt work the 2 times before.
I decided to just forget about the using the clock. Now Im going to go directly to my batter and use a switch to turn it on/off when i leave my car.
Oh and BTW, I lost a clip when I snapped the clock back on hehe. Oh well. Just thought Id share my mess up with the rest of you

Did you splice the security wire (scanner) into the right security wire (clock)?

Hey I did the same thing. i thought there were goin to be enough to supply to the scanner, but then there wasn't. I ended up messing up the control unit and my security light. The light stayed on faintly, but I had that whole mess fixed by a buddy. The reason why the security unit doesn't have enough power is because at the initial arming of the car the security light stays on for a moment and then switches to blinking mode. There is enough power when the security turns on, but when it starts to blink, there isn't enough juice there to power the security light and the scanner itself, so eventually the security doesn't blink and the scanner didn't move. The power goin to the security is too low to support the scanner. An alternative power source would be from the ignition. I think that's where the instruction said to get the power from. Cuz when u put the key into the iginition and crank it to accessories, then the scanner turns off. I have to redo the wiring on my car, because I'm stealing power from the power mirrors, right now. When I use the left side mirror while driving, my scanner runs. Kind of funny looking. Good luck with it.

Hmmm, that may be the reason...but Kev's is hooked up that same way if i remember correctly, so i dont know.

Anyways, thanks for the comments guys. I just fixed my whole setup. I used a fuse and went from my battery to a switch to turn it on and off when I want. It actually looks really nice now. There are no wires on the dash or in plain view. But if you're sitting in the drivers seat, then thats another story . I have a bunch of wires around my feet taped against the back panels. But the only time i see them when getting into the car. Otherwise its totally unnoticable.

And if anyone doesnt know what im talking about check out Varad.com. Then click on "EL Scanners". The one I just put on is the EL600 series...its Lime colored. I should get some MPEG of it for you guys too.

That explains why my LED's won't power off that LED as well!!!! AH HA! I have had the same issues trying to get them to work.

Ok, for all of you that dont know how this is done I dont know what the hell you guys are doing. NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE.

I want to know what wiring you were doing and why you needed to go to the battery.

I installed the same VARAD GOTHIC scanner Kev has and the wiring took me 1hr because I had to run extension wires from the clock all the way across, up the A piller, and across the roof and down to the rear-view mirror.

But as far as testing it, that wiring can be done in a matter if FIVE MINUTES.

All the wires can be tapped right there at the clock, except Ground, you can ground the wire more easily for the scanner to the bolt under the sunglass holder.

But the wires are CLEARLY labeled on the back of the connector on the clock. If you want, PM me and I will go and take a picture of the wiring on the clock and show you which wires are NEEDED to be tapped.

Lets put an END to this simple project and make everyone happy and have scanners going on ALL OVER THE PLACE, yeah I know they look HOT!!! That is why I want to help.

OK this is what i did...believe me i feel stupid, it seemed too easy. I hooked up red to red, black to black, and yellow to yellow....no dice. It doesnt really matter anyhow, i already used mine elsewhere. But, maybe i had the yellow wire wrong...although someone said that was the security wire.
