Pulled up next to a new Altima yesterday!
Pulled up next to a new Altima yesterday!
Wow it was nice! It was merlot (or some color close) with chrome 17" wheels and that dual exhaust! I saw it coming up from the traffic behind me and I thought it was a new I-35 at first, but to my surprise it was the Alty!
It might not be as nice as the max, but I gotta hand it to Nissan for the drastic improvement to the entire car!

Well put Hogan. I'm really disappointed with the quality of the interior. It kinda reminds me of cheap GM parts.

Nissan decided to make the new Maxima even better than the new Altima which is actually "bigger" than the Maxima, but remember that it offers the 4cyl Base motor, and an optional V6 motor. The V6 motor is not for sport driving, its mainly for highway cruising, not hotrodding like a Maxima. Gotta see it beyond whats on paper, and see the actual function and niche they are targetting.

Altima rants/raves
I have to admit I was not happy about the specs on the new Altima before it was released. However, today I think differently, because if it can build excitement for the brand, and provide Nissan with needed cash flow to improve all products, then in the long run we're all better off as long as we remain loyal to the Maxima or Nissan in general.
Now, my neighbors work for Nissan so every time he or she gets to drive an Altima, they bring it by for me to look at. Unfortunately, unless you get a high-end Altima, the interior just doesn't stack up in context of look and feel. That is my main concern about this car as it enters the competitive field of mid-size sedans in earnest with this makeover. Now, I'll be honest also in saying the pics I've seen of the made over Camry interior don't show it as improved much, and possibly even less appealing than the Altima. However, one can opt for nav system on Camry...not available on Altima. Could be a mistake on Nissan planning side.
Anyway, I think the Altima is a sharp-looking car, and I'd never consider one over the Maxima even today. In my opinion, the Maxima is still a much better product. And size does not matter here...other makers have products that overlap in size, but content and design is what separates them (camry/ES300 for example).
At the end of the day, let's just be glad Nissan has some products to get excited about.
